Analysis of selected composite indexes using DEA and MCDM models

Abstract:

Kvalita života a lidský rozvoj se dá vyložit různými teoriemi a měřit různými indexy. Tři základy lidského rozvoje jsou žít dlouhý, zdravý a tvůrčí život, získávat vzdělání a zkušenosti a mít přístup ke zdrojům potřebným pro standardní životní úroveň. Tento koncept představila Organizace spojených národů společně s ukazateli a indexy, pomocí kterých lze lidský rozvoj měřit, aby bylo možné porovnat jednotlivé země světa a případně pracovat na zlepšení podmínek. Pro tuto práci je zvolen index genderového rozvoje a index genderové nerovnosti, protože i rozdíly mezi pohlavími mohou mít vliv na kvalitu lidského života, a v mnoha zemích se přístup k ženě a k muži velmi liší. V teoretické části této diplomové práce jsou indexy detailně popsány, stejně tak způsob jejich výpočtu. Pro analýzu jsou použita data, která zveřejňuje OSN a indexy jsou vypočítány pomocí vybraných metod vícekriteriálního rozhodování a DEA modelů. Výsledky analýzy jsou následně porovnány s hodnotami, které každoročně vydává OSN, a jsou shrnuty největší rozdíly.

Abstract:

The quality of life and human development is described by various theories and measured by different indexes. Fundamental human development is divided into the three categories: to live a long, healthy and creative life, to gain education and experience, and to have access to the resources needed for a standard of living. This theory was presented by the United Nations, along with indicators and indices that can be used to measure human development in order to compare countries around the world and potentially have the opportunity to improve conditions. For this thesis, the gender development index and the gender inequality index are chosen. It is because gender differences can also affect the quality of human life. As well as in many countries access to women and men varies greatly. Firstly in this thesis, the indices are described in detail, as is described the way they are calculated. The data published by the UN are used for the analysis. The indices are calculated using selected methods of multi-criteria decision making and DEA models. At the end of the diploma thesis the results of the analysis are compared with the values published by the UN.
