Teoretická část této bakalářské práce se zabývá vývojem britské a severoamerické výslovnosti angličtiny. Dále nabízí srovnávací náhled obou variant v segmentální a suprasegmentální fonetice a fonologii, zdůrazňuje postavení anglického jazyka, který je právem označován za jazyk světový a je dnešní lingua franca.
