The myth of the Austrian sacrifice after World War II

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá pohledem na Rakousko jako na první oběti řádění hitlerovského Německa a tím, zda-li oprávněně používá spojení první oběť. Práce je rozdělena do čtyř kapitol, které jsou následně pro lepší orientaci v tématu rozděleny do podkapitol. V první řadě se práce zabývá hlasy ve společnosti, které požadovaly a prosazovaly připojení k Německu, následoval exil císařské rodiny a složitá politická situace 20. a 30. let 20. století, která vedla k samotnému anšlusu a uchopení moci nacisty. Následující kapitoly se věnují spojeneckým plánům územního uspořádání po skončení války a také roli odboje a osobě Otty Habsburského v poválečné obnově Rakouska. Třetí kapitola popisuje události bezprostředně po osvobození země Rudou armádou, obranu Rakušanů prostřednictvím Prohlášení o rakouské nezávislosti a Červeno-bíle-červené knihy a zároveň vysvětluje rozdělení země na okupačních zón a přípravu na první poválečné volby. Ve čtvrté kapitole se práce zabývá procesem denacifikace, který pomohl pochopit závažnost provinění rakouských občanů, a také tím, jak ve společnosti fungoval mýtus o první oběti Rovněž se kapitola zabývá tím, jak chtěli Rakušané dostat závazku, který spojenci přijali na moskevské konferenci - což bylo obnovení suverénního a nezávislého rakouského státu. Přestože rakouská společnost v prvních letech existence republiky slyšela hlasy po připojení Rakouska k Německu, podstatná část této společnosti se dokázala přizpůsobit podmínkám, které jim připravily spojenecké plány. Přes všechna fakta, která nehrála ve prospěch obrany Rakouska jako první oběti hitlerovského Německa, se politické elity dokázaly mýtu o první oběti přizpůsobit a dokázaly přesvědčit společnost i samotné spojence, že skutečnými oběťmi byli Rakušané. Je důležité poznamenat, že Moskevská deklarace často opomíjela odkaz, který činil Rakousko odpovědným za rozpoutání druhé světové války, a tehdejší politické elity se spíše držely tvrzení, že Rakušané byli prvními oběťmi Hitlerovy rozpínavosti. Spojenci tedy sami nabádali Rakušany k odpovědnosti, ale zároveň už nebyli důslední v dohledu nad jejím dodržováním - a to i s ohledem na proces denacifikace, od kterého se na rozdíl od Německa upustilo.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the view of Austria as the first victims of the rampages of Hitler's Germany and whether it is justified to use the connection first victim. The thesis is divided into four chapters, which are subsequently divided into sub-chapters for better orientation in the topic. In the first, the work deals with voices in society that demanded and pushed for joining the ranks of Germany, followed by the exile of the imperial family and the complex political situation of the 1920s and 1930s that led to the Anschluss itself and the Nazi seizure of power. The following chapters are devoted to the allied plans for territorial organization after the end, as well as the role of the resistance and the war of Otto Habsburg in the post-war reconstruction of Austria. The third chapter describes the events immediately after the liberation of the country by the Red Army, the defense of the Austrians through the Declaration of Austrian Independence and the Red-White-Red Book, and at the same time explains the division of the country into an occupation zone and the preparation for the first post-war elections. In the fourth chapter, the work deals with the process of denazification, which helped to understand the seriousness of the offenses of the Austrian citizens, and also how the myth of the first victim worked in society. of the sovereign and independent Austrian state. Although the Austrian society in the first years of the existence of the republic heard voices after the annexation of Austria to Germany, a substantial part of this society was able to adapt to the conditions prepared for them by the Allied plans. Despite all the facts that did not play in favor of the defense of Austria as the first victim of Hitler's Germany, the political elites of the myth of the first victim proved and were able to convince society and the Allies themselves that the real victims were the Austrians. It is important to note that the Moscow Declaration often omitted the reference that held Austria responsible for starting World War II, and the political elites of the time tended to stick to the claim that the Austrians were the first victims of Hitler's expansionism. Thus, the Allies themselves urged the Austrians to be responsible, but at the same time they were no longer consistent in supervising compliance - even with regard to the process of denazification, which, unlike Germany, was abandoned.
