Comparison of the development of unemployment in the Czech Republic and Spain in 2006-2016

Abstract:

Vývoj nezaměstnanosti patří bezesporu k nejdůležitějším ukazatelům úspěšnosti hospodářské politiky. Již v minulosti patřil problém nezaměstnanosti k jednomu z nejdiskutovanějších témat, hlavně v době, kdy počet nezaměstnaných výrazně stoupal a představoval tak nebezpečí pro fungování ekonomiky. Teoretická část práce se věnuje základním pojmům týkajících se nezaměstnanosti společně s hlavními teoriemi nedůležitějších ekonomických škol. Vysvětluje fungování na trhu práce a uvádí základní principy politiky zaměstnanosti. Součástí teoretické části jsou i základní definice a metodiky používané k měření nezaměstnanosti v České republice a ve Španělsku. Praktická část se zpočátku zaměřuje na popis vývoje a porovnání míry nezaměstnanosti u sledovaných zemí. U obou zemí je možné pozorovat podobný trend ve vývoji míry nezaměstnanosti vlivem hospodářské krize. Nezaměstnanost je v obou případech vyšší u mladých lidí a žen. Česká republika má jednu z nejnižších nezaměstnaností v Evropské unie, což je mimo jiné způsobeno vlivem rychlého hospodářského růstu, nízké mzdové hladiny a návaznosti na ekonomiku Evropské unie. Existují také obrovské rozdíly mezi jednotlivými regiony uvnitř zemí, zejména pak v případě Španělska. Tyto rozdíly jsou způsobeny hlavně strukturou hospodářství a úrovní dosaženého vzdělání obyvatel. Hypotéza, že vývoj nezaměstnanosti byl silně ovlivněn hospodářskou krizí, avšak dopad na všechny ekonomiky nebyl stejný a nezaměstnanost je ovlivněna i řadou vnitřních faktorů, se na základně analýzy dostupných statistických dat potvrdila.

Abstract:

Unemployment is undoubtedly one of the most important indicators of economic policy success. Already in the past the problem of unemployment has been one of the most discussed issues, especially at a time when the number of the unemployed has risen significantly and posed a threat to the functioning of the economy. The theoretical part deals with the basic notions concerning unemployment together with the main theories of the most important economic schools. It explains the functioning of the labour market and sets out the basic principles of employment policy. Part of the theoretical part includes the basic definitions and methodologies used to measure unemployment in the Czech Republic and Spain. The analytical part initially focuses on the description of the development and the comparison of the unemployment rate in the two monitored. For both countries, a similar trend can be observed in the development of the unemployment rate due to the economic crisis. Unemployment is higher among both young people and women. The Czech Republic has one of the lowest unemployment in the European Union, which is due to, among other things, rapid economic growth, low wage levels and the European Union's economy. There are also huge differences between regions within countries, especially in the case of Spain. These differences are mainly due to the structure of the economy and the level of education achieved by the population. The hypothesis that the development of unemployment was heavily influenced by the economic crisis but the impact on all economies was not the same and unemployment is affected by a number of internal factors confirmed on the basis of the analysis of available statistical data.
