Experience of an intellectual disability of the sibling

Abstract:

V práci se zabývám pohledem sourozenců mentálně postižených na svou životní situaci a dopady, které tato zkušenost měla. Protože v českém prostředí nebylo téma téměř zkoumáno, teoretická východiska pocházejí převážně ze zahraničních zdrojů, které se povětšinou zaměřují na zkoumání pozitivních a negativních dopadů této mnohdy zátěžové zkušenosti. Mezi pozitivními dopady se objevují např. zvýšená tolerance, trpělivost, empatie a mezi negativními pak problémy se vztahy k vrstevníkům, emoční problémy, či problémy s přizpůsobivostí. Výzkum byl realizován kvalitativní analýzou rozhovorů s pěti respondenty za pomocí vybraných metod zakotvené teorie. Výsledky ukázaly, že zkušenost českých sourozenců bývá v mnohém podobná situaci západních kolegů. Objevují se u nich mnohé z pozitivních dopadů, negativní pak méně. Stejně jako u západních výzkumů se ukázalo, že pro úspěšné vypořádání se s touto specifickou rolí je důležité úspěšné zvládání rodičů, vysoká odolnost rodiny, její velikost a podpora okolí. Neobjevila se potřeba odborné pomoci či sdílení s lidmi se stejnou zkušeností. Jediným jednotným zjištěním bylo to, že všichni sourozenci svou situaci a to, že mají sourozence s postižením, vnímají jako něco normálního. V diskusi přináším podrobnější analýzu výsledků, zvažuji možné příčiny rozdílných zjištění oproti západním zemím a nabízím možná využití výsledků a doporučení pro další výzkum.

Abstract:

This work deal with the view of siblings of mentally handicapped to their living situation and the impact that this experience could have. As in the Czech Republic was not subject almost examined, theoretical background comes mainly from foreign sources, which are largely focused on exploring the positive and negative effects of this often stressfull experience. Among the positive effects are emerging such as increased tolerance, patience, empathy, and between negative problems with relationships with peers, emotional problems or problems with adaptability. Research was conducted qualitative analysis of interviews with five respondents using selected methods of grounded theory. The results showed that the Czech experience of siblings is similar in many ways the situation of western colleagues. There are many of them positive impacts, negative less. As with Western research has shown that to successfully deal with this specific role is important the successful coping of parents, high resistance of family, its size and support area. There was no need for professional support or need of sharing with people with the same experience. The only uniform finding was that all siblings see their situation and the fact they have siblings with retardation as something normal. In the discussion show a more detailed analysis of results, ponder possible causes of different findings compared to Western countries and offer the potential use of the results and recommendations for further research.
