Culture in spa towns of Czech republic – redefition and updating

Abstract:

Teoretická část práce pojednává o roli kultury, její historii, současném stavu, správě, financování a propagaci ve vybraných léčebných lázních v České republice (i v některých lázních zahraničních). Práce se zaměřuje na roli kultury v souvislosti s proměnami lázeňství a lázeňské klientely, s ohledem na změny v demografii, ekonomice, životním stylu a chování odběratelů služeb. Součástí teoretické části je také analýza kulturního prostředí v českých lázních v současnosti a pokus o redefinici lázeňství. Praktická část se pak na základě poznatků z první části, případových studií a praxe kulturního managementu obrací do budoucnosti a představuje vizi alternativního lázeňství skrze koncept ART SPA, který pracuje s potenciálem rozvoje kulturního vyžití, uměleckých projektů a kulturního turismu a posouvá chápání lázní jako kulturní destinace. Projektová část práce je vystavěna jako desatero, které navrhuje jednu z cest, jak toho dosáhnout.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to elaborate on the role of culture, its organization, administration, financing and promotion in the spa towns of the Czech Republic in relation to the change of their nature and clientele while taking into account the changes in demography, economy, lifestyle and the behaviour of the consumers of the given services. An excursion into the history of spa culture as well as an analysis of the state of the cultural environment in spas today are also a part of the theoretical part of the thesis. The theoretical part is concluded by a chapter on the redefinition of spa culture into material, psycho-emotional, social, ideological as well as political categories using five chosen attributes, which are integrally connected to it. The practical part then, based on the findings of the first part, case studies and personal experience from the practice of cultural management, focuses on the future and introduces a vision of alternative spa culture through the ART SPA concept, which shifts the understanding of spas as a cultural destination. The project part of the thesis is structured into ten points that propose one way how to ensure progress of potential through cultural life, art projects and cultural tourism.
