Correlation of parenting styles and self-esteem of children with behavioral and emotional disorders

Abstract:

Předmětem této práce bylo prozkoumat vzájemné souvislosti mezi uplatňovanými způsoby výchovy v rodině a sebehodnocením dospívajícího s poruchami chování a emocí. Teoretická část pojednává o problematice poruch chování a o vývojových úkolech období dospívání. Dále se zabývá konceptem rodinné výchovy, jejími dysfunkcemi a současnými trendy. V závěru teoretické části se práce věnuje sebehodnocení, jeho zdrojům, aspektům i poruchám. Výzkumná část je zaměřena na analýzu vztahu mezi uplatňovanými způsoby výchovy v rodině, resp. emočním vztahem k dítěti a výchovným řízením, a sebehodnocením dítěte. Pro realizaci výzkumu byl zvolen kvantitativní výzkumný design, realizovaný prostřednictvím jednorázového dotazníkového šetření, ke kterému byla využita Rosenbergova sebehodnotící škála a Dotazník pro zjišťování způsobu výchovy v rodině od Čápa a Boscheka. Výzkumného šetření, které proběhlo v zařízeních ústavní péče pro děti a mládež s poruchami chování, se účastnilo 88 dospívajících ve věku od 12 do 18 let. Z výzkumu vyplývá, že děti s poruchami chování dosahují nižších hodnot v úrovni sebehodnocení než běžná populace. Výsledky také prokázaly souvislosti mezi percipovaným způsobem výchovy v rodině a úrovní sebehodnocení. Diskutovány jsou možné příčiny těchto zjištění.

Abstract:

The thesis looks into the connections of self-esteem of children with behavioral and emotional disorders and the parenting styles of families in which they are brought up. The theoretical part describes the topic of behavioral disorders and developmental tasks in the adolescence. Also, the topic of family upbringing, its malfunctions and current trends are elaborated on, as well as the aspects of self-esteem, its sources and malfunctions. The research part analyses the relations between parenting styles, more precisely the emotional attitude of the parent and the educational direction, and the self-esteem of the child. Using quantitative methods, the research has been carried out via a survey with Rosengerg Self-esteem Scale and the Questionnaire to find out the educational style in the family, from Čáp and Boschek. The survey took place in various educational institutes for children with behavioral disorders, comprehending responses from 88 adolescents aged from 12 to 18. The results indicate that the children with behavioral disorders reach lower levels of self-esteem, compared to the rest of the population. Also, we proved the connection between the perceived educational style and the level of self-esteem. The possible reasons for such findings are discussed.
