The process of recovery of people suffering from schizophrenia spectrum disorders

Abstract:

Disertační práce se zabývá subjektivním zotavením u osob s diagnózou poruchy schizofrenního spektra. Zotavení v tomto kontextu označuje osobní proces vyrovnávání se skutečností vážné duševní nemoci, předmětem zkoumání je tedy osobní zkušenost člověka s procesem zotavení, jak jej prožívá a chápe. Výzkum byl realizován na vzorku sedmi lidí, z toho pěti mužů a dvou žen, ve věku 35–57 let. S respondenty byly provedeny polostrukturované rozhovory, v první části participanti volně vyprávěli o svém životě s duševním onemocněním, ve druhé části rozhovoru jim byly pokládány otázky směřující k relevantním oblastem souvisejícím se zotavením. Rozhovory byly následně analyzovány z perspektivy interpretativní fenomenologické analýzy. Výsledkem výzkumu je šest tematických oblastí, které se jevily jako podstatné v procesu zotavení – oblast léčby, vlastní participace na zotavení, smysluplnost životního příběhu, vnímaná sociální opora, oblast práce a oblast bydlení. Tematické oblasti obsahují další dílčí podtémata. Možné interpretace výzkumných zjištění jsou pojednány v diskusi, rovněž jsou zmíněny přínosy a limity práce.

Abstract:

The dissertation is concerned with subjective recovery of people suffering from schizophrenia spectrum disorders. Recovery in this context means the personal process of settling with the fact of a severe mental illness, the object of the research is therefore the personal experience with the recovery process as it is individually percieved and understood. The research was realized on the sample of seven people, including five men and two women aged 35-57. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with respondents; in the first part participants talked about their lives with mental illness; in the second part of the interview they were asked questions about relevant areas related to recovery. The interviews were subsequently analyzed in terms of interpretative phenomenological analysis. The result of the research is the six thematic areas that appeared to be essential in the recovery process - the area of medical treatment, self-participation in recovery, meaningful life story, perceived social support, work and housing. Thematic areas include other subtopics. Possible interpretations of the research findings are discussed, as well as the benefits and limits.
