School achievement motivation and willingness to communicate among pupils in a lower secondary school during English language lessons

Abstract:

Tématem této diplomové práce byla výkonová motivace žáků 2. stupně ZŠ v hodinách anglického jazyka a ochota žáků komunikovat v hodinách anglického jazyka. Cílem této práce bylo zjistit, jaká je potřeba vysokého výkonu a potřeba vyhnutí se neúspěchu u žáků 2. stupně ZŠ v hodinách anglického jazyka a jejich míra ochoty komunikovat v hodinách AJ. Dalším cílem bylo popsat, zda existuje vztah mezi výkonovou motivací těchto žáků a jejich ochotou komunikovat v hodinách AJ. Teoretická část zahrnuje kapitoly popisující hlavní témata, tj. komunikaci, motivaci a ochotu žáků komunikovat. Teoretický rámec doplňují kapitoly věnované vývoji žáka z hlediska mladšího a středního školního věku a kapitola věnována didaktice cizího jazyka. Praktická část je rozdělena na kapitolu metodologickou, která popisuje výzkum a způsob vedení výzkumu, a výsledkovou. Výzkum probíhal dle kvantitativního designu výzkumu prostřednictvím dotazníkového šetření mezi žáky na vybraných základních školách během školního roku 2023/24. Na základě výsledků tohoto výzkumu byly v závěru práce formulovány implikace pro pedagogickou praxi.

Abstract:

The topic of this diploma thesis was the school achievement motivation among pupils in lower secondary schools during English learning lessons, and their willingness to communicate in English language lessons. The aim of this work was to determine the need for high performance and the need to avoid failure among pupils in lower secondary schools in English language classes and their level of willingness to communicate in English. Another objective was to determine whether a relationship exists between the school achievement motivation of these pupils and their willingness to communicate in English language lessons. The theoretical part includes chapters describing the main topics, such as communication, motivation, and students' willingness to communicate. The theoretical framework is complemented by chapters dedicated to the development of pupils of younger and middle school age, and a chapter focused on foreign language didactics. The practical part is divided into a methodological chapter, which describes the research and the research methodology, and a results chapter. The research was conducted using a quantitative research design through questionnaire surveys among pupils at selected elementary schools during the 2023/24 school year. Based on the results of this research, implications for educational practice were formulated at the conclusion of the thesis.
