The Written Part of the State School Leaving Exam in English Language

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá státní maturitní zkouškou z Anglického jazyka, především její písemnou částí. Práce nejen představuje zkoušku, její formy a pravidla hodnocení, ale také nabízí metody a strategie vedoucí k rozvoji písemných dovedností žáků středních odborných škol a odborných učilišť. Teoretická část představuje zkoušku, popisuje požadavky a poskytuje teoretický základ pro praktickou část. Samostatná kapitola je věnována žákům se specifickými poruchami učení, obtížím, se kterými se mohou u zkoušky setkat a uzpůsobením a modifikacím, které jsou jim v současnosti nabízeny. Praktická část je tvořená experimentem, který byl proveden na Střední škole polytechnické v Brně. Obsahuje popis intervenční aktivit, kterým byli žáci vystaveni po dobu tří měsíců, detailně rozpracovává částečné výsledky a nabízí shrnutí a analýzu výsledků. Taktéž navrhuje způsoby, jak by tyto aktivity mohly být zahrnuty do školních vzdělávacích programů.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the State School Leaving Exam in English language, mainly its written part. It not only introduces the exam, its forms and rules of evaluation but also offers methods and strategies for the development of writing skills of students at secondary professional schools and vocational training schools. The theoretical part introduces the exam, describes its requirements and provides theoretical base for the practical part. A separate chapter is devoted to students with Specific Learning Differences, the difficulties they may face at the exam and to the alternations and modifications they are currently offered. The practical part is formed by a quasi-experiment conducted at Secondary Polytechnic School in Brno. It includes a description of intervention activities to which the students were subjected to for a period of three months, works up partial results and offers a summary and analysis of the outcomes. It also suggests possible ways of implementing these activities into the School Educational Programmes.
