Techniques and Strategies in Teaching English to a Learner with Dyslexia

Abstract:

This paper discusses, by the means of case study, approaches towards problems of pupils with specific learning difficulties in lessons of English language on elementary school and tries to suggest suitable strategies and techniques. Theoretical part, deals with terminology of specific learning difficulties; dyslexia and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, its symptoms and theory of techniques and strategies by various authors. Practical part is divided into two parts: the pre-research and main research. The pre-research focuses on specifying the area of difficulty of the pupil and his learning style. It also analyzes data collected during observations of the pupil{\crq}s activity and behaviour during the English lessons. The outcomes are used in the main research as the basis for practical use of the defined strategies and prove its efficiency.

Abstract:

Tato práce diskutuje nástroji případové studie přístupy k problematice dětí se specifickými poruchami učení v hodinách anglického jazyka na základní škole a navrhuje vhodné strategie a techniky .Teoretická část se věnuje terminologii specifických poruch učení, dyslexie a syndromu ADHD, jejich symptomech a o teorii technik a strategií různých autorů. Praktická část je rozdělena na dvě části: předvýzkum a vlastní výzkum. Předvýzkum se soustředí na specifikaci oblasti problémů daného žáka a jeho učebního stylu. Analyzuje také data získaná při pozorováních žákovy aktivity a chování při hodinách anglického jazyka ve škole. Výsledky předvýzkumu jsou použity ve vlastním výzkumu, jako základ pro praktické použití definovaných strategií a ověřuje jejich efektivitu.
