Quality of life and health condition of seniors taking care of their mentally handicapped adult children.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá kvalitou života a zdravotním stavem seniorů pečujících o své mentálně handicapované dospělé děti. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části, teoretickou a empirickou. V teoretické části jsou vymezeny pojmy "kvalita života", "zdravotní stav" a způsoby jejich hodnocení. Poté se diplomová práce zaměřuje na problematiku stárnutí a stáří, involuční změny ve stáří, polymorbiditu a změny klinického obrazu nemocí ve stáří, sociálně-ekonomické podmínky života ve stáří a přístupy k životu ve stáří. Dále se zabývá zásadami péče o dítě s mentální retardací v rodině. V empirické části jsou využity metody kvalitativního výzkumu, a to metoda polostrukturovaného rozhovoru ke zjištění zdravotního stavu probandů a technika dotazníku pro posouzení kvality života seniorů (WHOQOL-OLD). Výzkum je realizován na dvou výzkumných skupinách. První cílovou skupinu výzkumu tvoří senioři ze sociálních zařízení Laguna Psáry u Prahy a Domov Daliborka v Prostějově, kteří zde žijí společně se svými dospělými dětmi s mentálním postižením. Druhou cílovou skupinu tvoří senioři, kteří o své mentálně handicapované dospělé děti pečují v domácím prostředí; v Ústeckém kraji totiž není možnost společného ubytování v zařízení sociální péče. Přínosem tohoto výzkumu by mělo být nalezení odpovědi na otázku, zda je potřebné, aby vznikala další zařízení, která by byla určena jak pro seniory, tak pro jejich děti s mentálním handicapem, v situaci, kdy již nejen tyto děti, ale i oni sami potřebují celodenní péči.

Abstract:

The thesis follows up the quality of life and health condition of seniors caring for their mentally handicapped adult children. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part defines the terms "quality of life", "health condition" and methods of their evaluation. The thesis then focuses on the issue of aging and old age, involutionary changes in old age, polymorbidity and changes in the clinical picture of diseases in old age, socio-economic conditions of life in old age and approaches to life in old age. It also deals with the principles of caring for a child with mental retardation in the family. The empirical part uses methods of qualitative research, namely the method of semi-structured interview to determine the health condition of probands and the technique of a questionnaire for assessing the quality of life of seniors (WHOQOL-OLD). The research is carried out on two research groups. The first target group consists of seniors from the social facilities Laguna Psáry u Prahy and Domov Daliborka (Daliborka Home) in Prostějov, who live here together with their adult children with mental disabilities. The second target group consists of seniors who take care of their mentally handicapped adult children in home enviroment; in the Ústí nad Labem region there is no possibility of joint accomodation in a social care facility. The benefit of this research should be finding an answer to the question of whether there is a need for additional facilities for both seniors and their children with mental disabilities in a situation where not only the children but also the seniors themselves need all day care.
