Controlling factors of selected instream wood characteristics in headwater streams of the Smrk Mt.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou říčního dřeva v horských pramenných tocích. V úvodních kapitolách charakterizuji říční dřevo, jeho specifické funkce v oblastech pramenných horských toků, přičemž se zaměřuji také na faktory ovlivňující distribuci jeho množství v prostoru koryta a jeho bezprostředního okolí. V další části se zaobírám metodikou sběru a analýzy dat. Sběr dat spočíval především v terénním výzkumu, jehož cílem bylo kvantifikovat říční dřevo a další parametry vybraných úseků na tocích masívu Smrku v Moravskoslezských Beskydech. Součástí analýzy dat bylo statistické zpracování a interpretace zvolených parametrů pro nezbytné určení vlivu geomorfologie a dalších vybraných charakteristik na výskyt říčního dřeva. Využita byla popisná statistika, korelace a vícestupňová lineární regrese. Dle výsledků se v celkové délce 3000 m nacházelo 1101 kusů říčního dřeva o minimálních parametrech 5 cm tloušťky a 1 m délky, z toho 706 ks bylo přítomno v korytě. Byla zjištěna vysoká variabilita množství říčního dřeva mezi toky, jeho korytový objem se pohyboval v rozmezí 1,91 m3/ha až 89,60 m3/ha. Z vypočtených parametrů byl sestaven lineární regresní model, který prokázal vliv šířky koryta a zakmenění na množství říčního dřeva. Pro pochopení širších souvislostí byly výsledky porovnány a diskutovány s českými i zahraničními studiemi souvisejícími s danou problematikou.

Abstract:

The purpose of the thesis is to explore the topic of the instream wood in headwater streams. The thesis opens with an overview of instream wood and its specific functions in headwaters, focusing on the factors that control wood load distribution within the channel and its surroundings. Following chapters describe a method of data collection and analysis. The data collection consisted of a terrain research that aimed at quantification of instream wood and other parameters of channel reaches within streams of the Smrk Massif located in the Moravskoslezské Beskydy Mountains. The analysis focuses on statistical treatment and interpretation of selected parameters to determine the effects of geomorphology and other characteristics on the occurrence of instream wood. The descriptive statistics, correlation and multiple linear regression were used. According to results, the total number of 1101 pieces of instream wood with minimal dimensions of 5 cm diameter and 1 m length were observed along the 3000 m of channel-reaches, taking the number of 706 pieces were situated within the channel. High variability of the quantity of instream wood among studied reaches was determined. The in-channel volume varied between 1,91 m3/ha and 89,60 m3/ha. The multiple linear regression model proved the influence of a hillslope, tree basal area and channel width on the instream wood load. The findings were discussed with other Czech and foreign studies.
