Analysis of adult students’ needs and predispositions when starting a course

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá komplexní vstupní analýzou dospělých studentů při zahájení jazykové výuky a nástupu do kurzu či soukromé výuky. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. Teoretická část práce uvádí definice a zvláštnosti vzdělávání dospělých a představuje fenomény, typologie a poznatky, které učiteli či lektorovi umožní efektivní adaptaci plánu kurzu, studijních materiálů a samotného procesu výuky tak, aby byly všechny složky a postupy efektivně přizpůsobené studijním předpokladům a učebním návykům studenta. Praktická část pak na základě těchto teoretických poznatků navrhuje komplexní vstupní test a pohovor pro dospělé studenty anglického jazyka v českých jazykových školách. Součástí praktické části je současně i kritická analýza jednotlivých částí navrženého testu a vstupního pohovoru a jejich aplikovatelnosti v jazykové výuce v jazykových školách i mimo ně a navrhuje alternativní řešení v případě nemožnosti užití navrženého test a postupu kvůli logistickým, technickým, či organizačním překážkám.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis analyzes adult students’ predispositions to language learning at the beginning of a language course. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part introduces definitions and peculiarities of adult education and introduces phenomena, typologies, and knowledge that enable the teacher or lecturer to effectively adapt the course plan, study materials and the teaching process itself so that all components and procedures are effectively adapted to the student's learning requirements and learning habits. Based on these theoretical findings, the practical part proposes a comprehensive entrance test and an interview for adult English students at Czech language schools. Part of the practical part is also a critical analysis of the individual parts of the proposed test and an interview and their applicability in language teaching in and outside language schools and proposes an alternative solution if the proposed test and procedure cannot be used due to logistical, technical or organizational obstacles.
