The impacts of the Mexican financial crisis on transformation of the IMF policy and attitude towards indebted countries

Abstract:

Proměna mezinárodní finanční struktury na počátku 90. let 20. století značně ovlivnila charakter krizí, se kterými se země v globalizovaném světě musí potýkat. Tato práce se zaměřuje na reakci Mezinárodního měnového fondu na nedostatky odhalené při první z novodobých krizí, jež se projevila ve změně přístupu Fondu jednak k potřebným preventivním opatřením a jednak k vhodným strategiím řešení krizí. Vedle konkrétních realizovaných změn jsou projednány i návrhy, které nebyly uskutečněny nebo byly realizovány až pod vlivem následujících krizí, a kritika, která se na MMF snesla v souvislosti s jeho odpovědí na události v Mexiku.

Abstract:

Shift in the international financial structure at the outset of 1990s influenced considerably the character of crises which countries in globalized world have to cope with. This thesis deals with the International Monetary Fund’s reaction to the imperfections disclosed during the first modern crisis which was manifested in a transformation of the Fund’s approach to required precautions, on the one hand, and on the other to appropriate crisis solution strategies. In addition to particular implemented changes, proposals that were never realised or realized under the influence of subsequent crises are also discussed, as well as critique which descended on the IMF in the connection with its response to events in Mexico.
