Potential of social change in use of Playback Theatre in Education

Abstract:

Disertační práce Potenciál sociální změny při využití playback divadla v edukaci pojednává o vybrané metodě aplikovaného dramatu a jejích možnostech otevírat dialog vedoucí ke společenským změnám. Edukace je zde nahlížena jako proces jdoucí ruku v ruce s komunitní prací a příběhovou narací, která seznamuje s hodnotami v daném kulturním rámci. V teoretické části se text zaměřuje na vymezení světa aplikovaného dramatu, který ve své fikci nabízí prožívání reálných emocí a možnost osobnostní změny. Ta je zde teoreticky uchopena popsáním kruhu změny, na základě čehož je uvažováno pojetí sociální změny. Dále je ukotveno playback divadlo jako takové a je uvedena krátká analýza vybraného příběhu. Text nás také seznamuje s dalšími vedenými výzkumy u nás a ve světě a metodu zasazuje do sociálně pedagogického přístupu k edukaci. Empirickou část tvoří kvalitativní výzkum, konkrétně interpretativní fenomenologická analýza. Vytyčuje výzkumné otázky, jejichž odpovědi jsou mapovány ve čtyřech rozhovorech a jednom přepisu videozáznamu představení playback divadla. Veškerá sesbíraná data se pojí ke konkrétnímu projektu, The Freedom Bus 2016, probíhajícím na okupovaných územích Palestiny. Sociokulturní prostředí je tak pro účel výzkumu vymezeno úzce, v závěru jsou však diskutovány širší paralely a významná témata, která provází využití playback divadla pro možnosti sociální změny, optikou sociální pedagogiky.

Abstract:

The dissertation thesis Potential of social change in use of Playback Theatre in Education deals with the chosen method of applied drama and its possibilities to open dialogue that leads to social changes. Education is viewed as a process going hand in hand with community work and story narration, which introduces values withing a given cultural context. In theoretical part the text focuses on defining the world of applied drama, which offers in its fiction experiencing the real emotions and the opportunity of personal change. That is theoretically described on the cyrcle of change, on the bases of which there is considered the social change. There is also defined the principle of playback theatre itself and analysis of chosen story is presented. The text also introduces some of other similar researches in the Czech Republic and in the world and the method is set in the context of social education. The empirical part is filled with qualitative research report, specifically with the interpretative phenomenological analysis. It brings the research questions and the responses are mapped in four interviews and one transcript of the video recording of the performance of playback theatre. All the included data is connected with project The Freedom Bus 2016, held in the occupied territories of Palestine. Sociocultural environment is therefore defined narrowly, however in the end there are discussed broader parallels and significant topics, which are important in use of playback theatre for possible social changes, with lenses of social education.
