Use of Augmented Reality in Technical Analysis teaching

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na problematiku rozšířené reality (z angl. augmented reality,dále jen AR) a možnost jejího využití v předmětu Technická analýza na akciových,měnových a komoditních trzích (dále jen TA). Výuka je zde aktuálně realizována pomocívýkladu nad vytištěnými fotokopiemi technicko-analytických grafů. Tyto komplexní grafyjsou pro studenty v případě několikanásobného překryvu čar nepřehledné a obtížně čitelné.Tím je negativně ovlivněna i jejich informační hodnota.Cílem diplomové práce je navrhnout řešení, které díky využití AR vyřeší problémy studentůsouvisející s nepřehledností a nízkou informační hodnotou výukových materiálů v TA. Pronaznačení dalšího rozvoje a možnosti budoucího nasazení řešení je sekundárním cílempráce provést se studenty a vyučujícím TA zhodnocení navrženého řešení, které je pro účelyotestování zpracováno ve formě ukázkového wireframe prototypu.Diplomová práce se postupně věnuje představení technologie AR, existujících výukovýchřešení založených na AR a popisem jejich vlivu na výsledky studentů, zkoumá průběh výukyTA, potřeby studentů a snaží se detailně popsat jejich problémy. Dále popisuje návrh řešenía postup při tvorbě prototypu, který je následně zhodnocen ze strany studentů i vyučujícím.Závěrem se práce zabývá kritérii pro verifikaci úspěšnosti začlenění řešení do výuky.Navržené řešení, které je ve formě otestovaného wireframe prototypu hlavním výstupempráce, se skládá z webové administrace, API, databáze a mobilní aplikace pro AR. Popsanéproblémy řeší tím, že dává vyučujícímu možnost tvorby jednodušších a lépe čitelnýchmateriálů, které si následně studenti mohou obohatit prostřednictvím AR v mobilníaplikaci. Díky vstupu z kamery zařízení, který je zpracován algoritmy AR a logikou navrženémobilní aplikace, tak mohou studenti na displeji selektivně zvýrazňovat části grafu,interaktivně přidávat či odebírat indikátory, signály nebo grafické objekty v rámcichartingu. Tím je při zachování jednoduchosti a čitelnosti tištěných studijních materiálůdynamicky zvýšena jejich informační hodnota a výukový potenciál.Autorův přínos spočívá nejen v identifikaci oblasti možného využití AR, ale především vetvorbě návrhu konkrétního řešení pro potřeby existujícího předmětu. Protože jefunkcionalita tohoto řešení navržena na základě výzkumu mezi studenty a vyučující, lzevýsledek práce považovat za v praxi přínosný. Výsledky práce mohou být rovněž využity jakopodklad pro další rozvoj myšlenky využití AR ve výuce i mimo kontext TA.

Abstract:

The thesis is focused on the problematics of augmented reality (hereinafter referred to asAR) and the possibility of its use in class Technical analysis on stock, currency andcommodity markets (hereinafter referred to as TA). The teaching is currently based onlecturing while using printed photocopies of technical-analytical charts. These complexcharts look confusing for students and are difficult to read because of multiple line overlays.This issue also negatively affects the chart’s information value.The aim of this thesis is to design a solution that, thanks to the use of AR, solves students'problems related to lack of clarity and low information value of teaching materials in TA.To indicate further development and the possibility of future deployment of the solution,the secondary aim of the thesis is to evaluate the designed solution with students and TAteacher, which is for testing purposes created in form of illustrational wireframe prototype.The thesis gradually introduces the AR technology, existing AR-based learning solutionsand their influence on students' results, examines the course TA, needs of students and triesto describe their problems in detail. It also describes the creation of the designed solutionand the prototype, which is subsequently evaluated by students and the teacher. Finally, thethesis suggests criteria for verification of future integration of the solution into teaching.The solution, which is in the form of the evaluated wireframe prototype the main output ofthe work, consists of a web administration, an API, a database and an AR mobileapplication. It solves the described problems by giving the teacher the opportunity to createsimpler and more readable materials that can then be enriched by AR in the mobileapplication. Using the device camera input, which is processed by AR algorithms and thedesigned mobile application logic, students can interactively highlight selected parts of thegraph on the display, add indicators, signals or charting graphical objects. Thus, whilemaintaining the simplicity and readability of printed teaching materials, their informationvalue and learning potential are dynamically increased.The author's contribution lies not only in identifying the area of the possible use of AR butespecially in the specifically designed solution for the needs of existing class. Since thefunctionality of this solution is designed according to research among students and theteacher, the result of the work can be considered as beneficial in practice. The results of thework can also be used as a basis for further development of AR use in teaching and outsidethe context of TA.
