Comparative Analysis of English and French in the Translated Texts of the European Union

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to provide a comparative analysis of the legislative texts translated from English to French in the framework of the European Union. The analysis is based on the use of a parallel corpus – it singles out several phenomena typical for the English legal documents within the EU and compares how these phenomena are reflected in the French translation. At the same time it points out some problems resulting from the translation process and illustrates them with concrete examples.
