Translation in the Fashion Field - XXth Century Trends

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the translation and adoption of French words into Czech language in the area of fashion during the 20th century. The theoretical part is mainly focused on the influence of the external factors, which support or prevent adoption from foreign languages and also how these factors were changing during the last century. The practical part investigates with the help of corpus of fashion magazines which historical periods were favourable for the adoption and how the influence of the French language was gradually changing depending on the overall situation and prestige of French in the particular periods.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá překladem a přejímáním francouzských termínů do češtiny v oblasti módy v průběhu 20. století. Teoretická část je zaměřena především na vliv vnějších faktorů, které buď přispívají k přejímání z cizích jazyků, nebo mu naopak brání, a na to, jak se tyto faktory měnily v průběhu minulého století. Praktická část pak zkoumá na korpusu módních časopisů, která historická období byla příznivá pro přejímání z francouzštiny a jak se postupně měnil vliv francouzštiny na češtinu v oblasti módy v závislosti na celkové situaci a na prestiži, které se francouzština těšila v jednotlivých obdobích.
