Public Relations During the Pandemic Times

Abstract:

Žijeme v turbulentní době, která vyžaduje, aby odborníci v oblasti public relations byli připraveni reagovat velmi rychle na nastalé krize. Jednou z takových byla i pandemie COVID-19. Cílem této práce je na základě odborných poznatků a analýz zaměřených na komunikaci ze strany vybrané státní instituce v době pandemie směrem k veřejnosti navrhnout případné konkrétní doporučení pro zlepšení této komunikace. Tento cíl je naplněn díky poznatkům z literatury a praxe, ale také na základě výstupů provedené vlastní analýzy sociální sítě Twitter. Bylo zjištěno, že nedostatky v krizové komunikaci vedly ke zhoršenému vnímání vybrané státní instituce. Z toho plynou doporučení, jako například důkladnější příprava stěžejních mluvčích či zlepšení interní komunikace, která při implementaci mohou vést k efektivnější a srozumitelnější komunikaci směrem k veřejnosti.

Abstract:

We live in a turbulent time that requires public relations professionals to be prepared to respond very quickly to a crisis. One such crisis was the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this work is to use expert knowledge and analyze the communication by a selected state institution in a time of a pandemic to the public and to propose specific recommendations for improving this communication. This goal is fulfilled thanks to knowledge from the literature and practice, but also on the basis of the results of analysis of the social network Twitter. It was found that shortcomings in crisis communication led to a worsened perception of the selected state institution. Due to this, it is recommended to improve the preparation of keynote speakers and internal communication. If these recommendations are implemented, it will lead to more effective and comprehensible communication with the public.
