The reading comprehension of pupils of the fifth year of elementary school

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se soustřeďuje na monitorování možného vlivu metody výuky čtení na čtení s porozuměním u žáků 5. ročníku, a to jak s ohledem na aspekty čtenářského výkonu, tak na porozumění textu na všech jeho úrovních. Teoretická část práce vymezuje pojmy gramotnost, čtenářská gramotnost a funkční gramotnost, uvádí vztah mezi nimi navzájem a vztah mezi gramotností a kurikulem. Dále stručně představuje vývoj metod výuky čtení v historickém kontextu a blíže se věnuje nejčastěji používaným metodám v České republice. Následně rozebírá kvalitativní i kvantitativní kritéria čtenářského výkonu. Závěr teoretické části je věnován mezinárodním výzkumům, jejichž cílem je zjišťování a srovnávání čtenářské gramotnosti v různých zemích. Empirická část prezentuje výsledky dvou výzkumných měření, které probíhaly v 5. ročníku na třech základních školách Moravskoslezského kraje. Tato část práce poskytuje kvantitativně i kvalitativně analyzované výsledky i komparaci těchto dat vzhledem k metodě výuky čtení. Zabývá se také žákovskou sebereflexí čtenářského výkonu a vztahu k četbě.

Abstract:

The focus of this diploma thesis is on monitoring a possible influence of a teaching method of reading on reading comprehension that has been observed on 5th-grade pupils where two aspects were taken into consideration, such as a reading performance and comprehension of a text at all its levels. The theoretical part of the thesis defines terms such as literacy, reading literacy, and functional literacy. Furthermore, it states the relationship between them, and the relationship between literacy and the curriculum. In addition, it briefly presents the development of methods of teaching reading in a historical context and focuses on the most used methods in the Czech Republic. It also analyzes the qualitative and quantitative criteria of reading performance. The conclusion of the theoretical part is devoted to international research, which aims to identify and compare reading literacy in different countries. The empirical part presents the results of two research measurements that took place in 5th grade classes at three different primary schools in the Moravian-Silesian region. This part of the work provides quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed results and a comparison of these data respecting the method of teaching reading. It also deals with students' self-reflection of the reading performance and the relationship to reading.
