Mapping the life course of people with Down syndrom. Literature review in comparison with the lived experience of people with Down syndrom and their parents

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá mapováním životních cest lidí s Downovým syndromem. Zaměřuje se na zmapování jejich života a životních cest od narození až do současnosti. Práce analyzuje, jakým formám diskriminace a segregace čelili v minulosti i nyní, a jak se v průběhu času vyvíjely vzdělávací a pracovní možnosti pro osoby s Downovým syndromem. Základem práce jsou individuální příběhy získané pomocí rozhovorů s lidmi s Downovým syndromem či s jejich rodiči. Práce porovnává žitou realitu dvou věkových kohort s odlišnou dobou narození. Analyzuje dopad změn ve vzdělávání, zaměstnání, sociálních politikách a v celkovém vnímání postižení. Hlavními výzkumnými cíli práce je identifikovat bariéry a inhibitory sociálního začleňování osob s Downovým syndromem a porovnat žitou realitu vybraných věkových kohort. Práce se zaměřuje na klíčové domény života, jako je vzdělání, zaměstnání, politická participace, volný čas, sociální služby a nezávislý způsob života. Práce shrnuje výsledky výzkumu a navrhuje doporučení pro podporu sociálního začleňování osob s Downovým syndromem.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the life paths of people with Down syndrome in the Czech Republic. It focuses on mapping their lives and life paths from birth to adulthood. The thesis analyses what forms of discrimination and segregation they have faced in the past and now, and how educational and employment opportunities for people with Down syndrome have evolved over time. The basis of the work is individual stories obtained through interviews with people with Down syndrome and their families. The thesis compares the lived realities of two age cohorts with different dates of birth and analyses the impact of changes in medicine, education, social policies and overall perceptions of disability on their lives. The main research objectives of the thesis are to identify barriers and inhibitors to social inclusion of people with Down syndrome and to compare the lived realities of the selected age cohorts. The thesis focuses on key domains of life such as education, employment, political participation, leisure, social services and independence. The thesis summarises the research findings and proposes recommendations for promoting social inclusion of people with Down syndrome.
