Traditional folk culture and folklore in education at primary school

Abstract:

Diplomová práce Tradiční lidová kultura a folklor ve výuce na primárním stupni ZŠ pojednává o zapojení folkloru do vzdělávání dětí mladšího školního věku. Hlavním cílem práce je zjistit názor pedagogů na implementaci folkloru do vyučování na prvním stupni základní školy. Teoretická část přibližuje pojem folklor a region Lašsko a analyzuje psychologii dítěte mladšího školního věku. Data pro praktickou část byla získána pomocí polostrukturovaného rozhovoru a dále tříděna metodou otevřené teorie prostřednictvím otevřeného, axiálního a selektivního kódování. Z této části vyplývá, že dotazované osoby mají k folkloru rozhodně pozitivní vztah, a tudíž o něm mají vcelku široké povědomí. Folklor do vyučování již zapojují, avšak hodnotí jeho zastoupení v současných učebnicích jako nedostatečné. Z šetření celkově vyplývá, že učitelé mají zájem o implementaci folkloru. Navíc vnímají jeho značný přínos zejména pro rozvoj komunikačních dovedností a jazykového cítění, získávání bližšího vztahu k domovu a celkové formování osobnosti, ať už z hlediska psychomotorického či sociálního. Z výsledků výzkumu dále vyplývá, že hlavním úskalím bránícím širšímu začlenění folkloru do vyučování je především nedostatek vhodné literatury. Proto poslední kapitola poskytuje konkrétní příklady možností zařazení lašských folklorních prvků do vybraných vzdělávacích oblastí.

Abstract:

The thesis studies the use of folklore in the first four grades of elementary school education. The main objective of the thesis is to survey teachers’ opinion on the incorporation of folklore in the first four grades of elementary school education. The theoretical part introduces the notion of folklore and the Lašsko region and it analyses the psychology of 6-10 year old children. The data for the empirical part were obtained using semistructured interviews and analysed using the grounded theory method through open, axial and selective coding. The analysis suggests that the interviewed teachers have clearly positive attitude towards folklore and thus have a broad understanding of folklore. These teachers already incorporate folklore in their teaching but they view the coverage of folklore in existing textbooks as insufficient. The survey suggests that teachers are interested in the incorporation of folklore in school education. Furthermore, they acknowledge folklore’s positive impact on the development of communication skills, language awareness, the development of a closer relationship to home and the overall psychomotoric and social formation of personality. The survey results identifies the lack of suitable class materials as the main barrier for broader inclusion of folklore in school education. That is why the last chapter of the thesis provides examples of specific ways in which Lašsko folklore elements can be incorporated in selected educational areas.
