The impact of psychosocial risks in the development of the burnout syndrome of nurses working in psychiatric wards

Abstract:

Cíl: Hlavním cílem diplomové práce bylo zjistit, zda mají psychosociální rizika vliv na syndrom vyhoření u sester, pracujících na psychiatrických odděleních. Dílčími cíli bylo zjistit, zda syndrom vyhoření souvisí s délkou jejich praxe, věkem, se spokojeností na pracovišti, stupněm vzdělání a zda psychosociální rizika souvisí s věkem sester. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 110 sester, pracujících na psychiatrických odděleních dvou zdravotnických zařízení v jednom městě. Dotazníkové šetření probíhalo pomocí standardizovaných dotazníků COPSOQ II a MBI. Výsledky: Prostřednictvím kvantitativního výzkumného šetření došlo ke zjištění, že psychosociální rizika mají vliv na syndrom vyhoření u sester. Zejména v doménách Psychosociální rizika a Zdraví a pohoda, v oblastech emocionálního vyčerpání, depersonalizace a v pracovním uspokojení. Sestry v nejvyšší míře uváděly, že nejsou dostatečně oceňovány za dobře odvedenou práci. Dále uváděly, že je celodenní práce s lidmi namáhavá a že pociťují spíše velkou únavu, než stres. Sestry s délkou praxe 11 až 15 let byly vyhodnoceny s nejvyšší mírou vyhoření. Nejmladší respondenti ve věku do 30 let udávali nejvyšší stupeň vyhoření. Výsledky porovnávání stupně vzdělání a syndromu vyhoření nebyly statisticky významné, avšak je patrný sklon k jeho vzniku u osob s vyšším vzděláním. Věk nejmladších sester (do 30 let) má vliv na psychosociální rizika ve všech doménách, kromě Zaměstnání a osobní život. Závěr: Z výsledků vyplývá, že psychosociální rizika mají vliv na syndrom vyhoření v mnoha oblastech. Je důležité, aby se všechny zainteresované strany zaměřily nejen na úpravu vhodného pracovního prostředí, ale aby se vedení a management zaměřili na supervize a hodnocení pracovního prostředí mezi zaměstnanci se snahou efektivního řešení.

Abstract:

Aim: The main goal of the diploma thesis was to find out, whether psychosocial risks have an effect on the burnout syndrome in nurses working in psychiatric wards. The partial goals were to find out, whether the burnout syndrome is related to the length of their practice, age, job satisfaction, level of education and whether psychosocial risks are related to the age of the nurses. Methodology: The research sample consisted of 110 nurses, working in the psychiatric wards of two medical facilities in one city. The questionnaire survey was conducted using standardized COPSOQ II and MBI questionnaires. Results: Through a quantitative research survey it was found, that psychosocial risks have an effect on the burnout syndrome in nurses. Especially in the domains of psychosocial risks and health and well-being, in the areas of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal accomplishment. The nurses stated at the highest level, that they were not sufficiently rewarded for a job well done. They also stated, that working with people all day was strenuous and that they felt very tired, rather than stressed. In terms of length of practice, nurses working in psychiatric wards 11 to 15 years were evaluated with the highest rate of burnout. In terms of length of age the youngest nurses, under the age of 30, reported the highest rate of burnout. The results of the comparison of the level of education and the burnout syndrome were not statistically significant, but there is a clear tendency for it to occur in people with higher education. The age of the youngest nurses (under 30 years) affects psychosocial risks in all domains, except employment and personal life. Conclusion: The results show, that psychosocial risks affect the burnout syndrome in many areas. It is important, that all stakeholders focus not only on adjusting the appropriate work environment, but that the management focuses on supervising and evaluating the work environment among employees with the aim of an effective solution.
