The comparison of online therapy and face-to-face therapy from the perspective of psychotherapists

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá srovnáním zkušeností psychoterapeutů s on-line terapií a terapií tváří v tvář klientovi. Zaměřuje se na to, zda a jak vnímají psychoterapeuti rozdíl mezi on-line a off-line psychoterapií, a to jednak v rámci své role, tak pro klienty. Data od certifikovaných psychoterapeutů byla sbírána metodou polo-strukturovaného rozhovoru a následně zpracována pomocí interpretativní fenomenologické analýzy. Byla identifikována dvě hlavní témata a sedm podtémat. Z pozice terapeuta vnímaly respondentky rozdíl především ve svých postojích k formě terapie, dále ve výhodách, nevýhodách a specifikách on-line terapie. Na straně klientů pak také referovaly rozdíl v postojích k oběma formám psychoterapie, které mohou odpovídat těm terapeutovým, výhodách a nevýhodách on-line terapie. Část zjištěných výsledků odpovídá poznatkům současné literatury. Výsledky této práce doplňují předcházející výzkumy o nové informace v kontextu postpandemické situace.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the comparison of psychotherapists' experiences with online therapy and face-to-face therapy. It focuses on whether and how psychotherapists perceive the difference between online and offline psychotherapy, both within their role and for clients. Data from certificated psychotherapists were collected by a semi-structured interview method and processed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. Two main themes and seven subthemes were identified. From the position of the therapist, the respondents perceived a difference mainly in their attitudes towards the form of therapy, as well as in the advantages, disad-vantages, and specifics of online therapy. On the clients' side, they also reported the difference in attitudes towards both forms of psychotherapy, which may correspond with the therapist's attitudes, the advantages and disadvantages of online therapy. Part of the found results agree with the findings of the current literature. The results of this work supplement previous research with new information in the context of the post-pandemic situation.
