ICT in everyday practices of young Gypsies

Abstract:

Výzkumná práce explorativního typu se zabývá praxemi adolescenčních Romů v kontextu informačních a komunikačních technologií. Cílem práce je prozkoumat, jaký mají informanti přístup k informačním a komunikačním technologiím, jaké jsou jejich kompetence a typy užívání ICT. Zároveň se práce zaměřuje na to, jak jsou praxe spojené s ICT rozprostřeny v běžném dni informantů. Výzkum je zaměřen na osobní počítače, internet a mobilní telefony. Práce vychází z teorie o domestikaci technologie, teorie každodennosti a reflexe změn způsobených v jejím charakteru informačními a komunikačními technologiemi. Dále jsou použity koncepty konvergence, teorie sociální exkluze a digital divide. Výzkum je proveden kvalitativně na vzorku patnácti respondentů ve věku 14 až 20 let. Za pomoci polostrukturovaných rozhovorů a doplňujícího etnometodologického pozorování byla sebrána data, která jsou analyzována s využitím metody zakotvené teorie. Výsledky práce přinášejí spektrum zjištění, která ukazují, jakým způsobem jsou ICT zakotveny v každodennosti mladých Romů

Abstract:

Explorative research work deals with practices of adolescent Roma in the context of information and communication technologies. The aim is to explore informant´s access to information and communication technologies, what are the types of their competences and the use of ICT. At the same time, the work focuses on how are practices associated with the usage of ICT spread in ordinary days of informants. Research deals with personal computers, internet and cell phones. This work is based on technology domestication theory, theory of everyday life and its changes caused by usage of information and communication technologies. Furthermore, the works uses concepts andt heories of social exclusion and digital divide, remediation theory and the concept of convergence. Qualitative survey is carried out on a sample of fifteen respondents aged 14 to 20 years. With the use of semi-structured interviews and complementary ethnometological observations data were collected that are further analyzed using the grounded theory method. The results of work provides an overview of technology domestication by young Roma related to ICT
