Parental Role in Delay of School Attendance

Abstract:

Tématem této bakalářské práce je role rodičů při odkladech školní docházky. Rodiče mají ze zákona právo rozhodnout o tom, zda jejich dítě půjde či nepůjde do školy. Tato práce přibližuje všechny okolnosti a úskalí, které do tohoto rozhodování vstupují. První kapitola se věnuje vymezení základních pojmů. Druhá kapitola obsahuje výtah ze školského zákona, který se týká problematiky odkladu školní docházky. Nejtěžším úkolem rodičů je rozpoznat, zda je dítě zralé či není. Proto je velký prostor věnován dimenzím a znakům školní zralosti. Nejdůležitějším úkolem rodičů je pochopitelně výchova dítěte a s ní spojená příprava na školu. Této tématice je věnována 4. kapitola. V další kapitole jsou uvedeny všechny zdroje, z kterých mohou rodiče čerpat potřebné informace o školní zralosti. Ve výzkumné části se věnuji dvěma tématům. První část je věnována posuzování konkrétních případům. Porovnával jsem úroveň školní zralosti u vybraných dětí a jejich další vývoj. Zaměřil jsem se na rodinnou anamnézu, v rozhovorech s rodiči jsem chtěl zjistit jednotlivé aspekty při jejich rozhodování. V druhé části výzkumu jsem se snažil odpovědět na otázku, zda jsou více kompetentní rozhodnout o odkladu školní docházky rodiče nebo učitelky mateřských škol. Pokouším se porovnat úroveň znalostí o školní zralosti u učitelek mateřských škol a u rodičů. Výsledek hovoří o tom, že učitelky sice mají v této oblasti větší odborné vědomosti, ale ne o tolik, aby bylo rodičům jejich rozhodovací právo odebráno ve prospěch právě mateřské školy. Závěrem konstatuji, že pokud se nepropojí jednotlivé složky, které se podílí na rozhodování o odkladu školní docházky dítěte, nedojde ke zlepšení současné situace.

Abstract:

The matter of this bachelor dissertation concerns the role of the parents postponing their children's school attendance. According to the law those parents are competent to decide whether their children will start attending school. This text tries to characterize all the circumstances and difficulties which influence that decision-making. The first chapter defines some basic concepts. In the second one there is a summary from the school law which includes the problems of school attendance postponing. The most difficult parents’ commitment is to identity whether their children are proportionately developed. That is why a lot of the text is devoted to the aspects and characteristic features of school attending maturity. Bringing up children and getting them ready for their school attendance is one of the most important parents' commitments. This subject is described in the fourth chapter. The other chapter involves all the sources where the whole of information on the school maturity needed by parents can by found. There are two subjects in the researching part of this bachelor dissertation. The first one evaluates some concrete cases. I compare the level of school maturity among some chosen children and their subsequent developments. Concentrating on the family anamnesis and interviewing parents I try to define various aspects of their decision-making. The second part of the research tries to find out whether parents or kindergarten teachers are more competent to decide on the school attendance postponing. Another purpose is to compare knowledge of school maturity between kindergarten teachers and parents. The result says that teachers have better knowledge of that area, but not so much that parents could be relieved of their decision-making in favour of kindergarten teachers. The conclusion is that if both of those parts influencing the decision-making on children’s school maturity are not interconnected, the present situation will not be improved.
