America: Cradle of Modern Environmental Movement

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyze the development of the modern environmental movement in the United States of America taking the key events which caused its formation into account. The first chapter aims on the period of industrialization and progression of the US since the 19th to the middle of the 20th century and also compares the attitudes towards nature among three different groups of inhabitants. The second chapter maps the formation of the environmental movement in the 1960s and describes the main reasons and influence. The third chapter then focuses on the 1970s when the movement was gaining more influence.

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je analyzovat vývoj moderního environmentálního hnutí ve Spojených státech amerických s přihlédnutím ke klíčovým událostem, které zapříčinily jeho vznik. První kapitola se zaměřuje na období industrializace a vývoje USA od 19. do poloviny 20. století a porovnává také vztah k přírodě mezi třemi odlišnými skupinami obyvatel. Druhá kapitola mapuje vývoj environmentálního hnutí v 60. letech 20. století a líčí hlavní důvody a vlivy. Třetí kapitola se pak soustředí na 70. léta 20. století, kdy hnutí získávalo mnohem větší vliv.
