Quality of live for young girls and women with Turners syndrome

Abstract:

Úvod: Turnerův syndrom je onemocnění, vyskytující se pouze u osob ženského pohlaví. Je provázeno souborem příznaků a obtíží, které mohou tyto dívky a ženy negativně ovlivňovat v životě. Je tedy opodstatněné zabývat se touto problematikou podrobněji. Cíl: Cílem této práce bylo zjistit, jak dívky a ženy s onemocněním Turnerův syndrom hodnotí svoji kvalitu života a jaké jsou rozdíly v jednotlivých doménách v závislosti na věku. Metodika: Průzkumný soubor tvořilo 42 dívek a žen, rozdělených do dvou věkových kategorií, a to 18 ? 29 let a 30 ? 44 let. Distribuce dotazníků probíhala jejich rozesíláním na emailové adresy členek Klubu dívek a žen s Turnerovým syndromem v ČR. Zároveň bylo budoucím respondentkám doporučeno, aby vyplněné dotazníky odeslaly zpět na uvedenou emailovou adresu, pro větší pocit anonymity, z nově si vytvořené emailové adresy. Pro průzkum byl vybrán standardizovaný dotazník k hodnocení kvality života Světové zdravotnické organizace ? WHOQOL ? BREF, který byl doplněn o sociodemografické údaje. Výsledky: Kvalita života dívek a žen s Turnerovým syndromem je, oproti hodnocení téhož zdravou populací, snížená, a to především v doménách fyzické zdraví, spokojenosti se zdravím, hodnocení celkové kvality života, sociálních vztahů a prožívání života. Zejména ve starší věkové kategorii hodnotily tyto ženy otázky pod populační normy. Závěr: Mezi dívkami a ženami s Turnerovým syndromem a zdravou populací je v hodnocení kvality života rozdíl, kvalita života u Turnerova syndromu je celkově snížená. Neustálý pokrok v diagnostice a léčbě tohoto onemocnění může hodnocení kvality života do budoucnosti ovlivnit pozitivně.

Abstract:

Introduction: Turner syndrome is a disease occurring only with human females. It is accompanied by a set of symptoms and difficulties which might negatively influence life of these girls and women. It is therefore reasonable to deal with this issue in more detail. Aim: The aim of this study was to find out how girls and women with Turner syndrome disease assess their quality of life and what the differences in the various domains depending on age are like. Methodics: Survey file consisted of 42 girls and women, divided into two age categories, 18-29 years old and 30-44 years old. The questionnaires were sent to the email addresses of members of the Club of girls and women with Turner syndrome in the Czech Republic. It was also recommended to the future respondents that they should send the completed questionnaires back to the e-mail address. For a greater sense of anonymity they should send it from a newly created email address. The standardized questionnaire was chosen for the survey to assess quality of life of the World Health Organization - WHOQOL - BREF, where socio-demographic details were added. Results: The Quality of life of girls and women with Turner's syndrome, compared with the general population of the same rating, is reduced, especially in the domains of physical health, satisfaction with health, assessing the overall quality of life, social relationships and perception of life. Especially the older age group women evaluated these questions below population standards. Conclusion: There is a difference between the evaluation of life among girls and women with Turner syndrome and the general population. The quality of life with Turner syndrome is generally reduced. The constant progress in the diagnosis and treatment of this disease can affect the evaluation of the quality of life positively in the future.
