The Notion of National Identity in Primary School Pupils

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá národní identitou pubescentů a klade si za cíl zjistit, jaké je jejich národní vědomí, a jak svou národní identitu prožívají. Teoretická část objasňuje pojem identita a její jednotlivá vymezení z pohledu různých koncepcí. Dále se zabývá vývojem identity z hlediska ontogeneze a klíčových sociálních interakcí, které ovlivňují člověka v průběhu života. Vymezuje pojmy jako národ, nacionalismus, vlastenectví, národní identita, snaží se o charakteristiku české národní identity, zabývá se tím, jak je národní identita formována na základních školách. Praktická část má povahu smíšeného výzkumu. Kvantitativní část využívá dotazníkového šetření ke zjištění, jaká je národní identita žáků, jak ji oni sami vnímají a jaké mají postoje k národu. Kvalitativní část pak pomocí polostrukturovaného rozhovoru zkoumá individuální prožívání národní identity.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the national identity of teenagers. Its objective is to find out what teenagers' national consciousness is like and how they experience their national identity. The theoretical part explains the concept of identity and its specific definition from the perspective of different approaches. It also deals with the development of identity in terms of ontogenesis and key social interactions affecting humans throughout their lives. It defines terms such as nation, nationalism, patriotism, national identity, tries to characterize Czech national identity, dealing with how the national identity is shaped in primary schools. The practical part comprises mixed research. The quantitative part uses the questionnaire as a research tool for gathering information about pupils' national identity, their national perception and their attitudes to nation. The qualitative part exploits the semi-structured interview in order to explore individual feelings of national identity.
