EU and gender: an analysis of the European Union's equal opportunities policy 2007-2022

Abstract:

I přes pokrok v genderové rovnosti, který lze v posledních desetiletích pozorovat, je zvyšování povědomí o genderových otázkách a prosazování politik rovných příležitostí žen a mužů stále aktuálním a důležitým tématem. Cílem této práce je čtenáři skrze provedenou analýzu politiky rovných příležitostí žen a mužů Evropské unie poskytnout komplexní pohled na problematiku nerovnosti žen a mužů. K dosažení tohoto cíle poslouží šest dílčích analýz zpracovávajících šest aspektů genderové nerovnosti (zdraví, peníze, práce, čas, znalosti a moc), s kterými práce pracovala na základě definic Evropského institutu pro genderovou rovnost (EIGE). Cílem provedených analýz je zprostředkovat odpověď na otázku, zda se Evropská unie prostřednictvím svých politik rovných příležitostí žen a mužů aktivně podílí na zlepšení situace genderové nerovnosti uvnitř EU, či zda je možné identifikovat prostor pro její zlepšení. K teoretickému ukotvení práce poslouží témata feminismus a gender v mezinárodních vztazích, gender a jeho místo v mezinárodním prostředí v kontextu mezinárodních organizací a vztah EU a jejích členských států.

Abstract:

Despite the progress in gender equality that has been made in recent decades, raising awareness of gender issues and promoting gender equality policies is still an important and widly discussed issue. This thesis aims to provide a comprehensive perspective on gender inequality through an analysis of the European Union's gender equality policy. To achieve this goal, six sub-analyses elaborating six aspects of gender inequality (health, money, work, time, knowledge, and power). The analyses carried out aim to privede an answer to the question of whether the European Union, through its gender equality policies, is contributing to improving the situation of gender inequality within the EU, or whether there can be identified a room for improvement. The theoretical part of this thesis provides an inside into topics such as feminism and gender in international relations, gender and its place in the international environment in the context of international organizations, and the relationship between the EU and its Member States.
