Use augmentative and alternative communication in the development of communication skills of students with learning disabilities

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá možnostmi využití systémů alternativní a augmentativní komunikace v rozvoji komunikační kompetence u žáků s mentálním postižením. Teoretická část vymezuje pojem mentální postižení, popisuje zvláštnosti u osob s mentálním postižením a vyjmenovává vzdělávací instituce pro děti a žáky s mentálním postižením. Dále jsou zde charakterizovány vybrané školské dokumenty, které upravují vzdělávání žáků s mentálním postižením. Také jsou zde srovnány komunikativní kompetence v jednotlivých Rámcových vzdělávacích programech. Část je věnována i vybraným systémům alternativní a augmentativní komunikace a popisuje komunikační systém VOKS, práci s piktogramy a různými počítačovými programy, které nabízí alternativní komunikaci. Hlavním cílem výzkumného šetření bylo pomocí systémů alternativní a augmentativní komunikace vytvořit didaktický materiál, školní řád v obrazové podobě, který má pomáhat žákům s mentálním postižením orientovat se v jejich právech a povinnostech ve škole. Pro výzkum byly zvoleny metody, nekvantitativní obsahová analýza textu a písemná anketa, která ověřovala rozvoj komunikativních kompetencí žáků.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis looks into the usage possibilities of alternative and augmentative communication for development of communicative competence of students with learning disabilities. The theoretical part defines mental disability, describes the unusualities of people with learning disabilities and identifies educational institutions for children and students with learning disabilities. Characterization of selected school documents that affect education of students with learning disabilities is presented followed by comparison of communicative competence in each of educational programs. Part of the thesis is devoted to selected systems of alternative and augmentative communication and describes a communication system VOKS, working with pictograms and various computer programs that provide an alternative communication. The main goal of the research was to create didactic material with the use of alternative and augmentative communication, i.e. school rules in pictorial form, which is designed to help students with learning disabilities to understand their rights and responsibilities in their school. As research methods non-quantitative content analysis and written survey were selected, which verified the development of communicative competencies.
