Information literacy and digital competencies of college students on the autism spectrum: a qualitative research probe at Masaryk University

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou informační gramotnosti v inkluzivní perspektivě vysokoškolských studentů a poruchy autistického spektra. Je tvořena teoretickou a empirickou částí. Teoretická část v několika kapitolách popisuje tři základní pilíře, které vymezují témata práce. V úvodní kapitole je představena problematika autismu. V druhé části je uvedena oblast akademické adaptability, která definuje autismus ve vysokoškolském prostředí. Třetí část se zabývá informační a digitální gramotností. Zaměřila jsem se i na jednotlivé přístupy v informační gramotnosti s využitím univerzálního vzdělávacího designu, které vedly k mému výzkumnému designu. V empirické části práce je představen výzkum, který jsem realizovala se studenty s poruchou autistického spektra (ve zkr. s PAS) na Masarykově univerzitě. Tento výzkum poskytuje důležitý vhled do toho, jaké jsou kompetence informační gramotnosti u studentů s PAS. Závěry výzkumu ukazují potřebu přizpůsobit programy rozvoje informační gramotnosti v prostředí vysoké školy na základě individuálních potřeb studentů.

Abstract:

This thesis addresses the issue of information literacy in an inclusive perspective of college students and autism spectrum disorder. It consists of theoretical and empirical parts. The theoretical part describes in several chapters the three basic pillars that define the thesis topics. The introductory chapter introduces the topic of autism. The second section introduces the field of academic adaptability, which defines autism in a college environment. The third section deals with information and digital literacy. I also focus on the different approaches in information literacy using universal educational design that led to my research design. The empirical part of the thesis presents the research I conducted with students with autism spectrum disorder (autistic spectrum disorder, abbreviated as PAS) at Masaryk University. This research provides important insight into what information literacy competencies are in students with PAS. The research findings indicate the need to tailor information literacy development programs in the college environment based on the individual needs of students.
