Is Englisch or German better foreign Language in the Czech Republic? Research of motivation and argument summary.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis „Is Englisch or German better foreign Language in the Czech Republic? Research of motivation and argument summary” compares the system and objectives of foreign language education in the Czech Republic and the European Union. The Czech Republic intends to introduce teaching of English as a first compulsory foreign language in Czech primary schools. The adoption of this idea would not longer guarantee a free choice of a first foreign language for head teachers, school pupils and parents as it has been possible in the past few years. Moreover, the number of German language lessons would be greatly reduced in Czech primary schools and knowledge of German language in the Czech population would continue to decline. Furthermore, the diploma thesis tries to find out which foreign language or languages are currently the most appropriate for study in the geographic and economic conditions of the Czech Republic, so that knowledge of the language would signify a good employment in the labour market and this language or these languages would be possible used in everyday life. In the thesis, information was gathered from the media, press, and a questionnaire survey which was attended by a total of 66 respondents.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce „Je vhodným cizím jazykem pro studium v České republice německý nebo anglický jazyk? Fakta a důvody“ porovnává systém a cíle cizojazyčného vzdělávání v České republice a v Evropské unii. Česká republika má v úmyslu zavést na základních školách povinnou výuku anglického jazyka jako prvního cizího jazyka. Tím by pro ředitele škol, rodiče a žáky nebyla zaručena možná svobodná volba výběru prvního cizího jazyka jako tomu bylo doposud. Toto rozhodnutí znamená, že se ve školách značně sníží počty hodin výuky německého jazyka a jeho znalost v české populaci bude nadále klesat. Dále se diplomová práce snaží zjistit, jaký cizí jazyk/cizí jazyky je/jsou v současné době nejvhodnější pro studium v geografických a ekonomických podmínkách České republiky tak, aby jeho/jejich znalost znamenala dobré uplatnění na pracovním trhu a bylo možné jej/je využívat v praktickém životě. V diplomové práci byly shromážděny informace z médií, tisku a z dotazníkového šetření, kterého se účastnilo celkem 66 respondentů.
