Museum as a place of education and construction of national identity

Abstract:

Zastřešujícím cílem této mezioborové disertační práce je představit čtenářům vztah muzeí k sociální realitě lidí, která se zrcadlí v národně-identitotvorné roli muzeí. Spolu s tím je snahou disertační práce ukázat vztah muzeí k edukaci v 21. století, přičemž právě edukační rovina muzea se nevyhnutelně pojí i s indentitotvorným rozměrem muzea, v tomto případě s národně-konstruktivistickým rozměrem expozice. Muzea a jejich expozice jsou totiž spjatá nejen s procesem konstrukce identity, ale i s procesem jejího osvojování si sociálními aktéry. Klíčovou identitou, o kterou se disertační práce zajímá, je identita národní. Národní identita je v disertační práci nahlížena především z hlediska její diskurzivní konstrukce. Hlavním cílem práce je zjistit, jak se na procesu konstrukce české národní identity podílí expozice Encyklopedie Slezska Slezského zemského muzea v Opavě. Cílem je odhalit, jakou podobu české národní identity expozice konstruuje a rekonstruuje, a skrze jaké prvky (exponáty a narativy) tak činí. Pozornost je věnována také tomu, jak může být daná expozice v kontextu tématu české národní identity zapojena do edukačního procesu žáků druhého stupně základních škol, kdy snahou výzkumného šetření bylo zjistit, v jakých bodech expozice přináší prolnutí s Rámcovým vzdělávacím programem pro základní vzdělávání. Právě ten totiž zastupuje diskurzivní rovinu edukační reality českých škol. Disertační práce předkládá několik výzkumných studií, které dohromady tvoří detailní případovou studii expozice Encyklopedie Slezska Slezského zemského muzea. Důležitý rozměr práce přitom tkví také v použité metodologii dispozitivní analýzy, která byla právě pro adekvátní naplnění cílů zrealizovaných výzkumů zkonstruována a na muzejní prostředí řádně aplikována.

Abstract:

The ultimate goal of this interdisciplinary dissertation is to introduce the relationship of museums to the social reality of people, which is mirrored in the national-identity-forming role of museums. Along with this, the dissertation seeks to show the relationship of museums to education in the 21st century, while the educational level of the museum is inevitably linked to the indentity-forming dimension of the museum, in this case the national-constructivist dimension of the exhibition. Museums and their exhibitions are linked not only to the process of identity construction, but also to the process of its acquisition by social actors. The key identity that the dissertation is interested in is national identity. National identity is viewed in the dissertation primarily in terms of its discursive construction. The main aim of the dissertation is to find out how the exposition of the Encyclopaedia of Silesia of the Silesian Museum in Opava contributes to the process of construction of Czech national identity. The aim is to reveal what form of Czech national identity the exhibition constructs and reconstructs, and through what elements (exhibits and narratives) it does so. The dissertation also focuses on the topic how the exhibition in the context of the theme of Czech national identity can be involved in the educational process of pupils of the second grade of primary schools, where the research investigation was aimed at finding out at what points the exhibition brings a blend with the Framework Educational Programme for Primary Education. Framework Educational Programme is the latter that represents the discursive level of the educational reality of Czech schools. The dissertation presents several research studies, which together form a detailed case study of the Encyclopaedia of Silesia exhibition of the Silesian Museum. An important dimension of the dissertation lies also in the methodology of dispositional analysis used, which was constructed and properly applied to the museum environment in order to adequately fulfil the objectives of the research.
