The Case of the Radio Journalist Alois Kříž before the National Court

Abstract:

Diplomová práce s názvem Případ rozhlasového redaktora Aloise Kříže před Národním soudem se zabývá soudní kauzou, v jejímž rámci retribuční justice zkoumala, zda Alois Kříž (* 1911 - † 1947), bývalý redaktor Vlajky a šéfredaktor rozhlasu, v období existence Protektorátu Čechy a Morava propagoval a podporoval nacistické hnutí. Autor v úvodním historickém exkurzu přibližuje proměny tiskových poměrů od druhé republiky po osvobození a problematiku kolaborace a aktivismu českých novinářů, jakož i poválečné soudnictví. Zvláštní kapitolu vyčlenil autor pro přiblížení proměn a fungování Českého rozhlasu od druhé republiky po osvobození v roce 1945. Život Aloise Kříže do jeho zatčení je exponován v samostatné kapitole. Stěžejní část práce se pak zaměřuje na průběh hlavního líčení s důrazem na projednávaná témata, svědecké výpovědi a protokoly. Opomenut není ani pohled dobového tisku na danou kauzu. Alois Kříž byl uznán vinným za svoji žurnalistickou kolaboraci s okupanty a odsouzen k trestu smrti. Al. Kříž byl aktivistou, který se pro kolaboraci rozhodl bezprostředně po Mnichovu 1938. Jeho rozhodnutí pro spolupráci s nacistickým režimem pramenilo z vnitřního přesvědčení i materiálních výhod. Národní soud neprokázal, že by Kříž střílel 5. května 1945 při bojích o budovu rozhlasu po boku esesáků po českých bojovnících.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis titled The Case of the Radio Journalist Alois Kříž before the National Court deals with the lawsuit against Alois Kříž (1911 – 1947) who was an editor of the magazine Vlajka and a chief editor of the Czech Radio. He was charged with propagating and supporting the Nazi movement during the time of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The introductory historical outline describes the changes in the press environment from the Second Republic until the Liberation. It also deals with the issue of collaboration and activism of Czech journalists and with the post-war judiciary. A separate chapter is given to the running and changes of the Czech Radio from the Second Republic until the Liberation in 1945. The life of Alois Kříž until his arrest is dealt with in another separate chapter. The most important part of this work then deals with the actual trial and special attention is paid to the discussed issues, w itness testimonies, and police reports. The response of the press is incorporated here as well. Alois Kříž was found guilty of journalistic collaboration with the occupying forces and sentenced to death. Alois Kříž was an activist who decided to collaborate with the Nazi regime immediately after the events in Munich in 1938. The main reasons for his decision to collaborate with the Nazi regime were his personal belief in the Nazi ideology and material gains. The National Court was not able to prove that Kříž had been one of the shooters who were helping the SS soldiers during the fights for the building of the Czech Radio on 5th May 1945.
