Decision Making Construction in Social Work from the Standpoint of the Dilemma whether to Intervene or not to Intervene

Abstract:

Pracuji jako sociální pracovnice sociální služby Triangl v rámci občanského sdružení Salinger, která se věnuje sanaci rodiny. Cílem služby je intervenovat v rodinách, kde hrozí umístění dětí do ústavní péče, ale kde jsou zároveň zachovány dobré citové vazby mezi rodiči a dětmi, takovým způsobem, aby se předešlo jejich umístění. Součástí mé práce jsou rozhodování, která se váží k více či méně zásadním aktivitám sociální práce a která mohou významně ovlivňovat životy dětí, rodičů a celých rodin, či dalších participantů na situaci. Jedno z takových klíčových rozhodování se váže k otázce, zda v konkrétní situaci zasáhnout, či nezasáhnout, což v rámci sanace rodiny může vést až k důsledku odebrání dítěte z rodiny, či naopak jeho ponechání v rodině. Přestože odebrání dítěte z rodiny iniciuje oddělení sociálně právní ochrany dětí (dále OSPOD), může tak učinit na základě mnou poskytnutých informací. Dilema, zda některé informace sdělovat OSPOD, či nikoliv, považuji za jedno z nejdůležitějších ve své praxi. Z této otázky také logicky vyplynul poznávací cíl mého výzkumu, kterým je reflektovat, „jak z hlediska dilematu zda „zasáhnout“ či „nezasáhnout“ konstruuji rozhodnutí o sdělení důvěrných informací od klientů o situaci v jejich rodině sociálnímu pracovníkovi, který je vybaven pravomocí iniciovat odebrání dítěte?“ Předpokládám, že konstrukce rozhodnutí zahrnuje za prvé „konstrukci dilematu, zda zasáhnout, či nikoliv“, za druhé „konstrukci reakce na dilema“ a za třetí „konstrukci legitimity reakce na dané dilema“. Příběh svého rozhodování jsem reflektovala prostřednictvím narativního výzkumu.

Abstract:

I have been working as a social worker for the social service Triangl within civic association Salinger focusing on a family redevelopment. The service target is to intervene in families threatened with placing of children to an institutional care but there where good emotional relationships between parents and children are retained, so that such placement should be prevented. A part of my work is making of decisions related to more or less important activities of social work and which could significantly influence lives of children, parents and all families, or other participants. One of such important decisions relates to the question, whether to intervene or not to intervene in a particular situation, which in terms of family saving can result in removal of a child from its family or on the contrary to its retaining within the family. Although it is the Department of Social Legal Protection of Children (further just DSLPC), which initiates removal of a child from its home, the department can make this removal pursuant to my information. I consider the dilemma of whether to say some information to the DSLPC or not being one of the most important in my practice. A cognitive target of my research has emerged logically from this dilemma, and that is to reflect the following question considering the dilemma of whether to intervene or not: “how do I construct my decision about disclosing some confidential information from my clients about the situation in their family to a social worker, who has the power to initiate removal of a child from its home to the institutional care?”. I suppose the construction of decision includes first “the construction of dilemma, whether to intervene or not to intervene”, second “the construction of a reaction to the dilemma” and third “the construction of a legitimacy of the reaction to the dilemma”. I reflected my „decision-making narrative“ through the basis of the narrative research.
