Monetary policy of the European Central Bank

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce bylo zhodnotit řízení měnové politiky Evropskou centrální banky v kontextu řízení inflace na úrovni cenové stability. Práce vymezuje typy měnových nástrojů a cíle centrálních bank a to jak všeobecně, tak se zaměřením na Evropskou centrální banku. Je představena také rešerše odborné literatury a metodika použitá k dosažení cíle. V práci je analyzován vývoj úrokových sazeb a měnového agregátu M3 ve vztahu k inflaci s pomocí aplikace ekonometrické metody pro testování vztahů mezi proměnnými založené na použití Engle-Grangerova testu kointegrace a testu Grangerovi kauzality. Zjištění práce naznačují výskyt kauzálních vztahů mezi úrokovými sazbami a inflací, nikoli však mezi měnovým agregátem M3 a inflací.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis was to evaluate the monetary policy management of the European Central Bank in the context of inflation management at the level of price stability. The thesis defines the types of monetary instruments and the targets of central banks, both in general and with a focus on the European Central Bank. The research of professional literature and the methodology used to achieve the goal are also presented. The thesis analyzes the development of interest rates and monetary aggregate M3 in relation to inflation with the help of the application of the econometric method for testing the relationships between variables based on the use of the Engle-Granger cointegration test and the Granger causality test. The findings of the thesis indicate the occurrence of causal relationships between interest rates and inflation, but not between the monetary aggregate M3 and inflation.
