Credit risk of non-financial companies in the context of the COVID-19 economic policy responses

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je prozkoumat dopad opatření na podporu ekonomiky během pandemie covid-19 na úvěrové riziko nefinančních společností. Práce se zaměřuje na ohlášení Evropské centrální banky a Evropské komise a jejich dopad na nefinanční společnosti na evropském trhu. Teoretická část popisuje dopady pandemie na ekonomiku a vliv na úvěrové riziko. Dále je nastíněna problematika swapů úvěrového selhání, pomocí kterých je vliv na úvěrové riziko zkoumán. Na závěr jsou výsledky dvou modelů porovnány, diskutovány a vyvozené závěry jsou prezentovány. Výsledky dokazují, že ohlášení ECB a Komise měla významný dopad na snížení úvěrového rizika. Dále bylo zjištěno, že ohlášení Komise snižují úvěrové riziko významněji než ohlášení ECB.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to examine the impact of economic policy responses conducted as a reaction to buffer negative impact on credit risk of non-financial companies during the covid-19 pandemic. The thesis focuses on the impact of announcements of the European Central Bank and the European Commission on non-financial companies on the European market. After a brief description of the concepts Credit Default Swaps, the effects of the pandemic on the economy and the impact on credit risk are analysed. Finally, results of the two models are compared, discussed and the conclusions are presented. The results show that the announcements of the ECB and the European Commission had a significant impact on reduction of the corporate credit risk. Furthermore, it was found that the Commission's announcements reduced the credit risk significantly more than the ECB's announcements.
