The Roma minority in the context of social exclusion and inclusion

Abstract:

Předkládaná magisterská diplomová práce pojednává o problematice romské menšiny, a to v jejím širším kontextu, přičemž důraz je kladen na sociální exkluzi a inkluzi této minority. Skládá se ze dvou hlavních částí: teoretické a empirické. Teoretická část se jednak zaměřuje na deskripci romské historie, rodinných vztahů, zvyklostí a tradic, ale také na popis specifik v chování a jednání této minority s důrazem na ty, jež přispívají k sociálnímu vyloučení romské menšiny. Pro snadnější pochopení daného tématu je v první kapitole věnován prostor pro vymezení ústředních pojmů, jež se k problematice úzce vztahují. V závěru teoretické části není opomenut také nástin některých možných řešení, která mohou pomoci této menšině v jejím sociálním začlenění do majoritní společnosti. Empirickou část diplomové práce tvoří kvalitativní šetření, které bylo realizováno na pozadí kvalitativní výzkumné metodologie. Tento výzkum je zaměřen na existující sociální službu, jež svou činností usiluje o prevenci vzniku sociálního vyloučení romské menšiny a řeší konkrétní nepříznivé situace Romů, jakožto sociální skupiny. Jeho cílem bylo popsat, jak hodnotí danou službu její současní romští uživatelé. K získání potřebných dat byly použity polostrukturované rozhovory s dospělými Romy z Opavy a okolí. Z analýzy získaných dat pak vyplynula řada faktorů, jež mají vliv na vlastní hodnocení této sociální služby, a to právě samotnými romskými uživateli.

Abstract:

The goal of the submitted thesis is to analyze the issue of the Romany minority. The focus is on the social exclusion and inclusion of this minority. The thesis consists of two parts: theoretical and applied. The theoretical part is focused on the description of Romany history, family relationships, customs and traditions. This part contains also a description of the specific behavior of this minority which leads to the social exclusion. For better comprehension, this part contains the definitions of various terms connected to this theme. In the end of this part there are some possible solutions how to support and help this minority with the social inclusion back to the majority society. The applied part of the thesis is devoted to the qualitative analysis which was realized in accordance with the qualitative research methodology. The analysis is focused on the existing social services which help to prevent the social exclusion of the minority. The aim was to describe how the minority appreciates and evaluates these services. The data were obtained during the semi-structured interviews with the Romany adults from Opava and surroundings. There are many factors ensuing from the analysis of the acquired data. These factors influence the evaluation of social services by the Romany minority itself.
