Use of the Question Formulation Technique to Develop Reading Literacy in Primary Education

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na rozvoj čtenářské gramotnosti a kritického myšlení žáků prvního stupně základních škol prostřednictvím metody The Question Formulation Technique. Tato metoda vznikla pod záštitou americké organizace The Right Question Institute s cílem rozvíjet u žáků dovednost klást otázky, kriticky myslet a budovat zodpovědnost a nadšení ze svého učení. Teoretická část práce vymezuje pojmy funkční a čtenářská gramotnost, jejich teoretická východiska, postavení v kontextu vzdělávání a jejich specifika ve výuce na prvním stupni základní školy. Součástí teoretické části je přiblížení podstaty pojmu kritické myšlení, jeho metod a využití otázek a dotazování pro rozvoj čtenářské gramotnosti. Cílem praktické části diplomové práce je vytvoření komplexního souboru příprav vyučovacích hodin, které skrze metodu The Question Formulation Technique rozvíjejí žákovu čtenářskou gramotnost, kritické myšlení, motivaci a angažovanost ve vlastním učení. Přípravy obsahují podrobný popis scénáře hodiny a následnou reflexi realizace v praxi.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the development of reading literacy and critical thinking in primary school students through The Question Formulation Technique. This method was developed under the auspices of The Right Question Institute, an American organization, to develop students' questioning skills, critical thinking, and building responsibility and enthusiasm for their learning. The theoretical part of the thesis defines the concepts of functional literacy and literacy, their theoretical background, their position in the context of education, and their specifics in teaching at the first level. The theoretical part includes an introduction to the essence of the concept of critical thinking, its methods, and the use of questions for the development of reading literacy. The practical part of the thesis aims to create a comprehensive set of lesson preparations that develop students' reading literacy, critical thinking, motivation, and engagement in their learning through the Question Formulation Technique. The preparations include a detailed description of the lesson scenario and a subsequent reflection on the implementation in practice.
