Assesment of Cognitive Functions of Elderly People in Residential Care Services

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou hodnocení kognitivních funkcí u seniorů v pobytových sociálních službách. Cílem diplomové práce je zhodnotit úroveň kognitivních funkcí seniorů ve vybraných domovech pro seniory prostřednictvím vybraných standardizovaných nástrojů a zdůvodnit důležitost hodnocení kognitivních funkcí pro koordinaci dlouhodobé péče u seniorů v pobytových službách. Práci tvoří část teoretická, která se zabývá teoretickými a metodologickými východisky, cílovou skupinou seniorů, dále pobytovými službami pro seniory v České republice a největší část se věnuje kognitivním funkcím, jejich klasifikaci, poruchám, hodnocení a dlouhodobé péči o seniory s kognitivní poruchou. Na teoretické poznatky navazuje část výzkumná, která obsahuje metodologii výzkumu a interpretaci výsledků práce. Cílem výzkumné části práce je posouzení kognitivních funkcí u seniorů v domovech pro seniory prostřednictvím standardizovaných nástrojů MoCA a POBAV. Výzkumu se zúčastnily tři domovy pro seniory a z nich 76 respondentů. Vzhledem k charakteru dat byla zvolena kvantitativní strategie zpracování. Bylo zjištěno, že průměrný skór v MoCA byl 19,63 bodů, pod hraničním skóre bylo 75 % respondentů. Dále bylo zjištěno, že není statisticky významný rozdíl v úrovni kognitivních funkcí v závislosti na konkrétním domovu pro seniory, pohlaví, úrovni vzdělání a v délce pobytu v sociální službě. Naopak byl prokázán statisticky významný rozdíl v úrovni kognitivních funkcí v závislosti na věku, pohybové aktivitě a kognitivním tréninku. V rámci výzkumu bylo statisticky ověřeno, že test MoCA i POBAV jsou v detekci kognitivního deficitu stejně přesné. Dále byl navržen postup hodnocení kognitivních funkcí pro domovy seniorů.

Abstract:

The master thesis deals with the issue of evaluation of cognitive functions of seniors in residential social services. The aim of the master thesis is to evaluate the level of cognitive functions of seniors in selected retirement homes through selected standardized tools and to justify the importance of evaluating cognitive functions for the coordination of long-term care for seniors in residential services. The work consists of a theoretical part, which deals with theoretical and methodological background, the target group of seniors, residential services for seniors in the Czech Republic and the largest part deals with cognitive functions, their classification, disorders, evaluation and long-term care for seniors with cognitive impairment. The theoretical knowledge is followed by a research part, which contains the research methodology and interpretation of work results. The aim of the research part of the work is to assess cognitive functions of seniors in retirement homes using standardized tools MoCA and POBAV. Three homes for the elderly and 76 of them responded to the research. Due to the nature of the data, a quantitative processing strategy was chosen. It was found that the average score in MoCA was 19.63 points, and that 75% of respondents were below the threshold score. Furthermore, it was found that there is no statistically significant difference in the level of cognitive functions depending on the specific retirement home, gender, level of education and length of stay in the social facility. On the contrary, a statistically significant difference in the level of cognitive functions depending on age, physical activity and cognitive training was demonstrated. The research statistically verified that the MoCA test and POBAV are equally accurate in detecting cognitive deficit. Furthermore, a procedure for the evaluation of cognitive functions for the homes of the elderly was proposed.
