Human Dignity and Dying

Abstract:

ANOTACE Bakalářská práce zjišťuje názory pacientů v období pre finem, jejich ošetřujícího personálu a laické veřejnosti na smrt a umírání, paliativní péči a pacientem vyžádanou euthanasii. Rovněž se zabývá potřebami a přáními umírajících osob. V neposlední řadě pak nutností a úrovní komunikace s pacienty v období pre finem. Těžiště práce tvoří kvantitativní výzkumné šetření výše zmíněné problematiky u pacientů v období pre finem, rovněž u jejich ošetřujících všeobecných sester a také u laické veřejnosti. Analýza a interpretace dat poskytuje informace o přístupu jednotlivých dotazovaných skupin, tj. pacientů v období pre finem, jejich ošetřujících všeobecných sester a laické veřejnosti na problematiku lidské důstojnosti a umírání. Tato bakalářská práce by měla být podnětem k zamyšlení nad důstojným doprovázením umírajícího pacienta a příspěvkem ke zkvalitnění péče a přístupu o umírající osoby ve zdravotnických či sociálních zařízeních.

Abstract:

The thesis finds out the attitudes of patients in the pre finem stage, of their nursing staff and of the non-professional public towards death and dying, palliative care and euthanasia (so called mercy killing). It also treats the needs and wishes of dying patients. Not least it deals with the necessity and level of communication with patients in the pre finem stage. The focus is in the quantitative research aimed at the problems mentioned above. The data analysis and interpretation provides readers with information on the attitudes of individual groups (patients in pre finem stage, staff nursing and non-professional public) to the issue of human dignity and dying. The thesis should serve as a stimulation to thinking about dignified accompanying of dying patients and should help to improve the quality of care and approach to dying people in health or social facilities.
