The myth of Persephone and its social aspects: education programme with drama elements for primary schools

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce „Mýtus o Persefoně a jeho sociální aspekty: výukový program pro žáky základních škol s prvky dramatické výchovy“ se zabývá návrhem scénáře výukového programu pro páté a šesté ročníky základních škol a jeho následnou realizací. Cílem toho programu je propojit dramatickou výchovu s řeckou mytologií, pomocí níž budou žákům následně přiblíženy společenské poměry antického Řecka. Pro účely výukového programu byl vybrán mýtus o Persefoně, na kterém lze vhodně demonstrovat hned několik aspektů řecké společnosti. Díky tomuto příběhu je možné se blíže seznámit s bohy, kteří v něm vystupují, zjistit, jaké bylo postavení žen v antickém Řecku, a také pochopit propojení bohů a přírody z pohledu obyvatel starověkého Řecka, zde konkrétně střídání ročních období. Teoretická práce pojednává o dramatické výchově, integrované tematické výuce a řecké mytologii a je oporou části praktické. Praktická část se zabývá návrhem výukového programu a jeho následnou realizací. Bakalářská práce je zakončena reflexí, ve které jsou shrnuty poznatky a dojmy autorky z realizace výukového programu a z reflexí žáků.

Abstract:

This thesis, called “The myth of Persephone and its social aspects: education programme with drama elements for primary schools,” is focused on designing a scenario of an education programme for 5th and 6th-grade students of primary schools, including its realization. This programme aims to connect drama education with ancient Greek mythology, which allows demonstrating the social relationships of ancient Greeks. For the purposes of the education programme, the myth “Rape of Persephone” was chosen for its suitability to describe multiple aspects of ancient Greek society. This myth allows students to familiarize themselves with gods appearing in it, understand the status of women in ancient Greece, and depict connection of gods and nature in from the perspective of ancient Greeks – specifically change of seasons. The theoretical part of the thesis discusses drama education, integrated thematic instruction, ancient Greek mythology. The practical part builds on the theoretical foundation of the previous one and deals with the design of the education programme and its realization. The thesis is concluded with a reflection that summaries findings and impressions from the realization of the education programme. Additionally, it includes reflections of participants.
