Social support in childhood cancer survivors

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá sociální oporou u dětí a dospívajících, kteří si prošli onkologickým onemocněním. Snaží se zmapovat strukturu sociální opory, zjistit, kdo je největším zdrojem opory a jaké rozdíly v opoře jsou mezi těmi, kteří mají zkušenost s onkologickým onemocněním a zdravými jedinci. V práci jsou také zjišťovány souvislosti sociální opory s kvalitou života u dětí a dospívajících, kteří si prošli onkologickým onemocněním. Data od „onkologických“ dětských pacientů byla sesbírána v rámci projektu QOLOP, který se zaměřuje na výzkum kvality života těchto dětí. Abychom lépe porozuměli tomu, čím si dítě a dospívající prochází po návratu do běžného života, je v teoretické části popsáno také to, čím si prochází během léčby nádorového onemocnění a pobytu v nemocnici. V práci jsou uvedeny všechny zdroje sociální opory, které dotazovaní zmínili, ovšem dále se pracuje pouze s matkou, otcem a kamarády, kteří byli po rodičích nejčastějším zdrojem opory. Největším a nejčastějším zdrojem sociální opory byla u všech jedinců matka. Výsledky dále poukazují na větší sociální oporu u dětí a dospívajících, kteří byli léčeni s onkologickým onemocněním. Souvislosti sociální opory a kvality života byly prokázány, avšak nebyly nalezeny pouze vztahy pozitivní. Mezi některými dimenzemi kvality života byly nalezeny i negativní vztahy se sociální oporou.

Abstract:

Thesis deals with social support in childhood cancer survivors. The aim of this thesis is to determine the structure of social support, the most common source of social support and the differences in social support between childhood cancer survivors and healthy children and adolescents. The correlation between social support and quality of life in childhood cancer survivors are also observed. Data from childhood cancer survivors were collected within the project QOLOP that focuses on the research of the quality of life of these children and adolescents. To better understand what the child and adolescent goes through after the return to normal life there is described what they have to go through during the treatment and hospitalization in the theoretical part. There are listed all of the sources of social support in this thesis, but further I have worked only with mother, father and friends which were after parents the most common source of social support. The biggest and the most common source of social support for all was mother. Results also suggest bigger social support in childhood cancer survivors. The relationship between social support and quality of life was proven, but not only positive relationships were found. There were found also negative relationships between certain dimensions of quality of life and social support.
