Isolation of seniors as part of measures against the spread of COVID-19 in homes for the elderly in the Ústí nad Labem Region from the point of view of social workers.

Abstract:

Dne 11. března 2020 Světová zdravotnická organizace vyhlásila šíření onemocnění Covid-19 za pandemii. O den později byl v České republice vyhlášen nouzový stav. Za jednu z rizikových skupin byli označeni lidé starší 60 let. V návaznosti na tuto skutečnost byla Ministerstvem zdravotnictví vydávána opatření, která se snažila zabránit přenosu tohoto virového onemocnění mezi zmíněnou rizikovou skupinu. Služeb, kterých se tato opatření týkala byly například sociální služby domovů pro seniory. Tato diplomová práce se zabývá etickými dilematy sociálních pracovníků, kteří v době pandemie covid-19 pracovali v domovech pro seniory. Hlavní výzkumnou metodou byl kvalitativní výzkum. V první řadě byla zpracována analýza usnesení na webových stránkách vlády ČR, kde byla sepsána veškerá opatření. Z důvodu tématu práce byla analyzována především usnesení týkajících se sociálních služeb. Paralelně probíhala analýza adekvátních odborných materiálů. Další technikou, která pomáhala k naplnění cíle, byly polostrukturované rozhovory s participanty. Díky těmto technikám byla zjištěna dilemata, se kterými se sociální pracovníci v rámci izolace seniorů v zařízení. Jako příklad lze uvést dilema, když zjistili, že se klienti schází i přes zákaz návštěv a jiné.

Abstract:

On 11 March 2020, the World Health Organization declared the spread of Covid-19 a pandemic. A day later, a state of emergency was declared in the Czech Republic. People over 60 were identified as one of the risk groups. Following this, measures were issued by the Ministry of Health to prevent the transmission of the viral disease among this risk group. The services affected by these measures were, for example, social services in homes for the elderly. This thesis examines the ethical dilemmas of social workers who worked in homes for the elderly during the covid-19 pandemic. The main research method was qualitative research. Firstly, an analysis of the resolutions on the government website was conducted to list all the measures. Because of the topic of the thesis, mainly resolutions related to social services were analyzed. Parallel analysis of adequate professional materials was carried out. Semi-structured interviews with participants were another technique that helped to achieve the objective. Through these techniques, the dilemmas faced by social workers in the isolation of seniors in the facility were identified. Examples include the dilemma of discovering that clients were meeting in spite of the visiting ban and others.
