Professional identity of Social Worker

Abstract:

Ve své bakalářské práci se zabývám profesní identitou sociálního pracovníka. Cílem mé práce je specifikovat, jakým způsobem sociální pracovníci konstruují obraz své profesní identity, jak prožívají identitu svého specializovaného oboru? Pro dosažení tohoto vytyčeného cíle jsem použila kvalitativní přístup k získávání, analýze a interpretaci dat. Jako metodu jsem zvolila nestrukturovaný (narativní) rozhovor, kdy jsem své respondenty podněcovala k vyprávění. Z těchto rozhovorů jsem mimo jiného dospěla k závěrům, ze kterých vyplývá, že sociální pracovníci se necítí být předurčeni k výkonu práce v této profesi, vytváří si vlastní vědomí profese, vnímají vzdělání jako jednu z nejvyšších hodnot, které je možné dosáhnout a nejsou spokojeni s finančním ohodnocením své práce. V současné době považuji za důležité působit na sociální pracovníky tak, aby se profese sociální práce a obraz její činnosti dostával ve větší míře do povědomí veřejnosti. Na základě této skutečnosti, myslím, bude veřejnost postupně měnit náhled na sociální pracovníky, což pozitivně ovlivní i míru identifikace pracovníků s jejich profesí, čili identitu profese jako takové.

Abstract:

In my Bachelor thesis I am dealing with the professional identity of a social worker. The aim of my work is to specify the way in which social workers construct the picture of their professional identity and the way in which they experience that identity. To accomplish my aim I used the quantitative approach towards gaining, analysing and interpretation of information. The method I have chosen is an unstructured (narrative) dialogue in which I initiated the workers to tell the story of their lives. The conclusions I got from the narratives are as follows: social workers do not consider themselves as predestined to perform their vocation, they create their own knowledge of profession, they consider education one of the highly valued things they can achieve and they are not satisfied with their remuneration. Nowadays, what I regard as an important issue is influencing social workers in such a way so that the picture of the profession of a social worker would come into the knowledge of the public. On the basis of this fact, I assume that the public will gradually change the opinion on social workers, which will influence not only the degree of workers? identification with their profession, but also the identity of the profession itself in a positive way.
