Teaching and learning using popular geography books: design-based research

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na vytvoření integrované tematické výuky pro 4. ročník základní školy a její ověření v praxi. Ve výuce bylo použito populárně-naučných knih, se kterými bylo pracováno pomocí metod rozvíjejících čtenářskou gramotnost. Téma zapojení populárně-naučných knih ve výuce prozatím není příliš popsáno, proto se práce postupem konstrukčního výzkumu věnovala postupně předložení ověřených teoretických postupů a doporučení, jež jsou následně využity při tvorbě plánu integrované tematické výuky sestávajícím z pěti vyučovacích hodin a jejím obsahu a učebních materiálů. Tento plán je následně konzultován s oborovou didaktičkou, pedagožkou a po proběhlých změnách dle doporučení převeden do praxe formou výuky ve 4. ročníku ZŠ. Výuce následoval sběr zpětné vazby od žáků metodou think-aloud, jejíž výstupy byly následně otevřeným kódováním zpracovány a analyzovány. Z rozhovorů a pozorování ve výuce vyvstaly další doporučení na změny v plánu výuky a didaktických materiálech, jež byly zapracovány. Závěrem práce jsou popsána zjištění o možnostech využití populárně-naučných knih a procesu jejich implementace do výuky.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis focuses on creating an integrated theme teaching for fourth-grade elementary school students and testing it. The teaching materials used were popular science books, which were incorporated using methods that develop reading literacy. The matter of using popular science books in teaching is not extensively described, thus the research gradually presented verified theoretical approaches and recommendations that were subsequently used in the process of making the integrated thematic curriculum plan and its content and teaching materials. This plan was then consulted with field expert, pedagogical expert, and after the recommended changes were made, it was implemented in the form of teaching in the fourth grade of elementary school. Feedback was collected from students using the think-aloud method, and the outputs were subsequently processed through open coding and analyzed. Further recommendations for changes in the teaching plan and didactic materials were identified through classroom observations and interviews, which were also incorporated. In conclusion, the thesis describes the findings on the possibilities of using popular science books, and the process of their implementation in teaching.
