Consequences of Prone Position in Physical De-escalation from Paramedic's Perspective

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce je deeskalace agresivních pacientů za použití pronační polohy. Je zde popsáno několik druhů pronačních poloh, které se mohou použít v závislosti na situaci. Vysvětlena jsou také rizika vzniku patologických stavů, které jsou spojené s použitím pronační polohy. Pronační poloha může zadat ke vzniku život ohrožujícího stavu jako je polohová asfyxie, hypoxická zástava oběhu. náhlá smrt nebo například agitované delirium. Proto důležité vést v povědomí správnou techniku a správně rozpoznat situace, kdy fyzickou deeskalaci provést. Jedná se o teoretickou práci (review), která popisuje tři hlavní cíle. V rámci prvního cíle osvětluji povahu pronační polohy a její využití. Druhý cíl pojednává spíše o prevenci použití pronační polohy v rámci fyzické deeskalace. Poslední cíl se věnuje skutečnosti vzniku patologických stavů a proč je vhodnější zvolit verbální deeskalaci na místo té fyzické.

Abstract:

The topic of the bachelor thesis is the de-escalation of aggressive patients using the pronation position. There are disclosed several types prone position, which can be used depending on the situation. Explanations are also risks of pathological conditions which are associated with the use of the prone position. The prone position can enter a life-threatening condition such as, for example, positional asphyxia, sudden death, or excited delirium. Therefore important to keep in awareness of proper technique and correctly identify situations when to use physical de-escalation. This is a theoretical work (review), which describes three main objectives. Within the first objective I explain the nature of the prone position and its use. The second objective describes a prevention of usage prone position within physical de-descalation. The last objective is devoted to facts of pathological states and why it is better to prioritize verbal form of de-escalation instead of the physical one.
