Nationality, Race, and Community.

Abstract:

Tato disertační práce se zaměřuje na problematiku nacistické národnostní politiky ve vztahu k Němcům žijícím v Protektorátu Čechy a Morava. Hlavním cílem je posoudit, do jaké míry se nacistům podařilo, či nepodařilo posílit německý živel v Čechách a na Moravě během šest let trvající okupace. Autor se soustředí na pojetí národnostní politiky Třetí říše, sídelní areály pro-tektorátních Němců, diferenciaci různých skupin německého obyvatelstva a jejich národnostní identitu, smíšená manželství a vztah mezi etnicitou a rasou v nacistické ideologii a praxi. Dále se zabývá otázkami uplatňování národnostní politiky vůči Němcům, a to z hlediska definice ?němectví?, evidence německých obyvatel s ohledem na státní příslušnost, sňatkové a rodinné problematiky či demografie. Značná část práce je věnována konkrétním opatřením v oblasti komunální politiky, školství, kultury, sociální péče, zdravotnictví a hospodářství. Není opome-nut ani význam plánováné a zčásti realizované německé kolonizace českých zemí. Autor se snažil postihnout též proměny národnostní politiky v závislosti na průběhu války. Okrajově rovněž shrnul průběh poválečného odsunu německého obyvatelstva z území bývalého Protek-torátu. Autor se nesoustředil pouze na Němce žijící v početných komunitách (jazykových ostrovech), ale i na německé obyvatele žijící v malých enklávách nebo zcela rozptýleně. Práce je doplněna několika exkursy, jež mapují osudy konkrétních objektů národnostní politiky.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the issue of Nazi nationalities policy in relation to Germans living in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The aim is to assess the extent to which the Nazis succeeded or failed to strengthen the German element in Bohemia and Moravia during the six-year occupation. The author focuses on the conception of the Third Reich?s national politics, settlements of Protectorate Germans, different groups of the German population and their nati-onal identity, mixed marriages and the relationship between ethnicity and race in Nazi ideology and practice. The thesis also deals with the application of nationalities policy towards the Ger-mans, in the field of the definition of "Germanness", the registration of German citizens with regard to nationality, mixed marriages and demographic problems. Much of the work is devoted to specific measures in the field of municipal policy, education, culture, social care, health and economy. The importance of the planned and partially realized German colonization of the Czech lands is also not neglected. The author tried to capture changes in nationalities policy in dependence on the course of the war. He also summarized the course of the post-war expulsion of the German population from the territory of the former Protectorate. The author focused not only on Germans living in numerous communities (language islands), but also on German re-sidents residing in small enclaves or living completely dispersed. The work is complemented by several excursions that map the fate of specific objects of national politics.
